Craft Room

So I finally got my craft room done and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Here is a before picture so you can see the transformation. We sold the futon and with the money bought a replacement computer desk. I bought that brown bookcase and used some fun wrapping paper to serve as a bright backing. I got the frames at DI and painted them to match. The whole thing cost less than $60 to put together. All the boxes are from IKEA. Its so nice to have a place for everything and I hope I can keep it this orderly.

That chair we also got at DI and I recovered it, it used to be olive green. Oh and I hope to replace the curtains soon with something lighter and brighter to let more natural light in. Fabric folds, I love how I can see all my fabric now and remember to use it. I got all the glass jars at DI for less than a $1 each. I can definately see myself collecting theseI love this shelf with a vintage candy dish to hold odds and ends.The "tea" jar is my favorite!

Christmas Pictures from Arizona

Okay so I know it is way late but I totally forgot that I had these. Here are some of my favorites from our fun trip to Arizona to be with Steve's family for christmas. (I put more on the family blog especially some of the not too flattering but funny christmas morning ones)There must be something about this purple pink plastic necklace of mine but it seems to be a big hit with the kids.I love this one of Jenny surrounded by the kids reading a christmas book before bedtime.All I remember is that Rachel and I were reading this book and then everyone was involved. Man I love those kids!

Table Transformed

Because my dear friend Whit is getting married and now has a house-I'm a little more than jealous-she took back the table she so generously let us borrow for a year. Needing some furniture for the kitchen we set out to DI and Saver's to see what we could find.
This beauty-I'm sure you've all seen in newly wed apartments and college living situations-was only $15. Sorry for the unglamorous shot but I was trying to remember to take the before shot. We also found these two chairs for $7 each. Yucky but sturdy. Yes, that seat is wicker.
So of course, if you know anything about me you know that I will not let furniture like that fly in my home. So after a sunday of painting, 4 coats of sealant, one grueling trip to the home fabrics store, a staple gun and some newspaper later we have...
Oh and I did pad the wicker seats with some batting because who sits on wicker these days?

Plus, we have some more chairs that are in limbo since it is too darn cold to spray paint and I am NOT painting metal without it. More on that later including the scary scams behind DI pricing and an egotistical furniture dept manager.

Happy New Year on the 10th

Well I am officially wishing you all a Happy New Year, I know it is 10 days late but I don't really feel like I started this year until the 7th anyway. I am really excited about 2008!

Break was fun, we saw lots of movies, including my first James Bond movie ever, I finished Grey's Anatomy Season 3 and feel very depressed about it, we also refreshed ourselves with a LOST Season 3 Marathon in preparation for Jan 31st, we played games, rocked Super Scrabble and spent lots of fun time with family and our preciously adorable if not overly active nieces and nephews.

For FHE this Monday, we talked about goals and keeping your eye on the ball, then we baked cookies and made lists of our resolutions. Here are mine:

-Read Love in the Time Of Cholera
-Make a quilt
-Go to the gym 3-4 times a week
-Make the most of my wardrobe by coming up with different outfit combinations
-Go to the temple twice a month
-Keep the apartment cleaner

Oh and I got some fantastic christmas gifts! Thanks everyone! Including a ton of much coveted art and jewelry plus we did some shopping which is always nice. We also were happy to pick out some of Steve's grandma's paintings. My favorite is the poppy and the snowy wintry scene.
