 Finally in Washington. My parents rolled out the red carpet for grandchild #1. Here he is one of the yard toys my parents borrowed from friends.

 No trip to the Pacific Northwest would be complete for me without visiting a thrift store. Value Village has these awesome mega baskets with wheels and long handles. Ingenious. Also I scored three new shirts and a skirt, thanks Mom and Dad!

 A cold wet morning at Jetty Island. Henry was delighted to ride the "Pirate Boat" to the beach. It was really a ferry but who cares, right?

Summer Vacation: WA - Part 2

On our last day in Washington my parents took us to Jetty Island, a two mile sand bar just inside the Puget Sound. The beach in Washington sure is different than the beach in Georgia. I was actually cold in July and would have been happy with a light jacket.

Henry didn't let the cold deter him from getting super sandy and wet.

When the tide is out you can walk about 1/2 mile out to the water which is still pretty shallow. The closer you get to the water, the softer the sand and the easier you sink. Henry insisted on being carried as the sand swallowing his little feet was pretty scary.

Grandpa was happy to tote Henry to and from the shore. And it ended up being the perfect photo op.

Overall we had a lot of fun in Washington. We saw lots of family and friends and were spoiled rotten by Grandpa and Gramma. In the end we were ready to come home and see Steve and get back to real life.

Summer Vacation: WA - Part 1

The fun continues in Washington as Henry and I flew up to spend the next few days with my parents. Steve is teaching this summer so he had to come home to work so we ventured on without him and missed him a lot. My parents had lots of fun things planned and my aunt came to Washington for the weekend too. Henry sure does love his Titi Cindy. Its funny how kids remember certain people and reference them while they are playing. Now Henry has lots of family members to name his little people and animals after.

Our first day we headed out to Everett to the Imagine Children's Museum. I would highly recommend this place to anyone in the area. My brother Nate and Vanessa came too. It was kind of funny our six adults for one little guy. Our first stop was the vet's office, Henry checked heart beats, looked at xrays and even did some clerical work. Next there was a huge train areas that was too good to pass up.

This room was awesome. They had music playing and if you stood against the wall and moved around, your image would be inserted in a cool graphic way. Henry stood mesmerized while I danced around him. See his little black silhouette. I am all the movement lines surrounding him. Later he got really into it and kept running back for more.

Next stop was pneumatic tubes that zoomed ping pong balls around the ceiling and then deposited them in this funky pathway.

Henry loves balls and Uncle Nate was nice enough to show him how to use the tubes.

And then a race between adults was a must. I don't remember who won but I do know there were a few questionable start times...

The place was so huge we didn't have time to do it all. On the roof there was a huge playground, cool jeeps and a dinosaur pit.

Gramma helped Henry unearth some dinosaur bones but he pretty nonplussed so he ran back to the jeep.

The last stop was the music area where they had those huge pianos like in the movie Big. I love Children's Museums and this was a really good one. We didn't do even half the rooms and they had a large variety of activities for all age groups, even adults.

Another day my parents took us to a free petting zoo at a local park. Henry loved giving all the goats hugs and he was surprisingly gentle for how inquisitive he was.

The farm had lots of animals; pig, rabbits, alpacas, horses, chickens, tiny baby bunnies, and many goats. There was even a turkey named Butterball. Henry was so interested in everything, it was fun to watch him race after the animals and peer into the fences. Henry especially liked washing his hands as we were leaving. The kid loves to wash his hands.

At the beginning of the month, I noticed that my chevron applique pillows were flying out of the shop. I mean, I think they are cute but interest had only been moderate before. So I did a little investigating and figured out that my shop had been featured on Apartment Therapy! What a wonderful surprise. They did spell my name wrong and misquote the pricing on the chevron pillow but STILL. And the picture they chose just happens to feature three of my best handmade designs.
