My Spanish speaking carnivore

If laughter is the best medicine, than I will live a long and healthy life due to my adorable daughter.

If you've talked to Sarah recently, you've heard of our plans to do a Little Mermaid theme for Halloween. Mike is going to be King Triton, and Sarah has decided that King Triton speaks Spanish. She has asked me a few Spanish words in regards to him, and one of them is the Spanish word for crown, which is Corona. (can you see where this is going yet) We were in the grocery store the other night and Sarah kept saying over, and over again, "Dad, you need a corona!" Later that evening she was in front of our place telling her friend that her dad needs a corona. Thankfully the friends parent's weren't present. I visit teach a Spanish speaking sister and my companion, who doesn't speak Spanish, needed an explanation as to why Sarah was telling her he needed a corona. I thought it was funny.

A few nights ago we assured our cat was inside before we went to bed. We left our bedroom door open to cool down our room and our cat apparently jumped off our balcony. The next morning she meowed by the front door until we let her in. Lucky us, she brought in a mouse that was still alive. I don't know if she'd just gotten bored with it, but it was unharmed except for being in shock. I put it in a shoe box and waited for Mike so we could take it to a field.

Sarah asked why we were going to let it go instead of feeding it to the cat. I asked if she wanted the cat to eat it and she said, "yes, because cats like to eat mice." She had just gotten done exclaiming how adorable it was, but had no problem feeding it to Mosey, since that is the natural order of things. :-)

When we had previous conversations about where meat comes from, she offered to help off the cows and chickens. Not in a morbid, animal abuse way, she just accepts where the food comes from and offers to help out. She'd probably cry if she really understood, but, unlike Lisa Simpson, she's fine w/eating someone else's work. The way her mind works is interesting to say the least. :-)

Oquirrh Mountain Temple

Last Sunday Mike and I had the special opportunity of attending the Oquirrh Mountain Temple dedication inside the temple. What a beautiful temple!

I'm grateful that this temple was built so close to us. Instead of driving 20 minutes to the Jordan River Temple, we can drive 10 to this one. :-) Since our stake is in the temple district we were able to volunteer for the open house when the public was welcome to walk through and see all the rooms. I was so impressed to see all the work that goes into these special places. The carpet designs were hand carved by a man from Africa. The chandeliers are gorgeous. It is a beautiful place of peace and I'm so grateful to have it close by.

Mr. Mom and Nebraska

Last week was an eventful time for Mike and I. I'm bummed that we don't have any pictures of Mike's week with the kids, because you would be impressed by his skills. Our good camara died a month ago and our cheap camara is MIA. You'll just have to use your imagination.

I got back into contact with a large group of family members that live in Nebraska and wanted to visit them. Mike had three weeks off between semesters, so he took the whole week off to be with the kids while I went on my trip solo.

First, the good stuff- Mike and the kids. I know there are a lot of great dad's out there, and I'm really grateful to be married to one of them. On Tuesday Mike took the kids camping at Trial Lake with his dad and brother. The kids did well in the tent and he reported that when they went fishing the next day, everyone caught one. Sarah is a fan of fishing, just don't ask her to eat one. :-) The also went to the library, hung out, and managed to have the house perfectly clean when I got home. I am a really lucky lady! When I got home on Friday we took the kids to the Aquarium, which is an activity they both love.

My trip involved a lot of driving, but was well worth it. Three of my sisters and a grandma live in Colorado, which is just about the halfway mark. I stopped there on Monday and spent the night and then headed out to Loup City, Nebraska. I hadn't been there since I was 10, but still remembered all of it. My grandma and I visited on Tuesday and Wednesday and stayed mostly in town. On Thursday we drove a couple hours to Lincoln so I could have lunch with my Aunt Kathy and three of my cousins.

After lunch I started my 13 1/2 hr drive home. I originally planned on spending the night in Colorado, but I missed my family too much. I stopped for dinner in Colorado and made it home around 4:30 AM.

Next time Mike has a week off I want to be with my family, but it was a nice trip and I'm glad I got to see that part of my family.

Family Pictures at Albion Basin

A few weeks ago we had our family pictures taken at Albion Basin on the Cecret Lake hike. I haven't picked out which family picture I like the best, because I love them all. The ones of the kids are the cutest, especially when they're together.
