Greek Festival 2010

Everyone comes to the Greek Festival to try the great food. They were a lot of hungry people this year. It seems there were three times the number of people than the last time I came. The lines were crazy long. My friend Richard at the Olive Tree said they sold everything they had, even the food they were planning to sell on Sunday.

I think it is time to move to Kapiolani Park, they definitely out grew McCoy Pavilion. Even with the huge crowd and long lines it was still fun. Great festival!

Department Appreciation Party

We had our department appreciate party at Dave and Busters a few weeks ago.  I thought shooting bon dances at night was tough.  It is nothing compared to Dave and Busters.  I had to use the lights from the machines to get any kind of shot. About 1/2 of my shots were out of focus, it is so dark the camera had a hard time focusing.  I used my 50mm f/1.4, ISO 2400 - 3600 and shutter 1/160 - 1/250.

This was the best appreciation party to date.  We got there at 9:30, got a $10 game card, played games until lunch at 11:00, played more games and got back to the office at 1:00.  All the soda you can drink, which turned out to be not a good thing.  It was fun watching fellow employees having fun and laughing.  Great party.

Biggest Little Airshow 2010

Pacific Aviation Museum held their 2010 "Biggest Little Airshow" this past weekend. They featured scale model planes and helicopters, all kinds food and the real thing in the museum. Very cool event, those little planes are so much fun to watch. But the real crowd stealer is the scale model helicopters and the candy drop. Those helicopters can fly upside down, backwards, upside down and backwards at the same time, fly inches off the ground, stand perfectly still tail down and tick the tail like a clock. I have never seen anything like it. Absolutely amazing! The candy drop is a kid favorite, a plane and a helicopter drop candy on the runway and all the kids run out to pick it up. So cute.

This F-15A has a small screw in it's nose.  I wonder if that's holding the plane together.

Soto Mission Bon Dance 2010

We went to check out the bon dance at Soto Mission on Nuuanu St. Kind of a cute neighborhood hongwanji, basic food, nothing fancy, very reasonable. Very dark shooting conditions, very hard to get a decent shoot. The taiko drummers were incredible. I got to sit right in front with all the little kids.
