Night Shoot with Shyanne

Shyanne wanted to try something different so we decided on a night shoot. We rescheduled a couple of times and of course the night we decide to shoot it rained off and on. It was clear for a short time, we got some good shots after fiddling with the camera and flash adjustments. Then it started to rain, I kept shooting until it really came down. We had an umbrella and there was also the flash umbrella on the light stand. They don't really cover 5 people completely but we did the best we could. The rain eventually stopped, we dried off and started shooting again and yes, it started to rain again, hard. OK, time to pack it up for good. Luckily with the flash hitting the rain we were able to get a few interesting shots. Kind of looks like snow. Pretty cool!

Fashion Week at Center Stage 2012

Every year Ala Moana Shopping Center has a week of fashion. Different stores and designers strut their newest fashions on Center Stage. I've been shooting this event for several years now. I always see these two guys there, Ivan and Wilfred. They are there from the first show in the late morning to the last show in the early evening. Each show starts on the hour and runs for 10 minutes. In the rest of the hour we share ideas, images and talk photography until the next show starts.

This year they used a very shiny runway. Because the runway was so mirror like the flash bounced and created a wavy pattern on the models and background. In the beginning I couldn't figure out where the strange pattern was coming from. After a while Wilfred and I determined the pattern was caused by us and there was no way to eliminate it. So if you are wondering where the weird wavy lines are from it from me.

Okinawan Festival 2012

I read an amazing 50,000 people attended the festival last year, it seems like there were many more people this year.  The food lines were so long they snaked through the crowd, it was hard to find the end of the line.  They also have the best food, wish I could have tried some.  Great food, great entertainment, great festival!

Fireworks at Hilton Hawaiian Village

We have always shot Hilton's Friday fireworks from Magic Island. Milton had a great idea, shooting from the Hilton Hawaiian Village beach. I tried to get as close as they would let me. I wanted to get the hotel in the background but when I got there they wouldn't let us on the ocean side of firing location. So I tried including the beach and palm trees in the foreground instead.
