Where to begin . . . Thursday was to be a day of celebration for my upcoming birthday since the fam and I were to go out of town for the weekend. We started the day at sick call with Lane to find out he had a really sore throat due to sinus issues. We were given an antibiotic and off we went to get it filled. After a dose of that he was down for a good nap and we got ready for the whole family to meet up here . . .

We ate really early (around 4) since this restaurant is fairly new and always packed. Had a great lupper and headed to the mall for a while before we went to the ASU Red Wolves game. Did a little shopping and met up with my folks to head to the game. When I was getting Lane out of his car seat, I noticed he didn't seem "normal" to me. Dad was helping me and observed the same thing. He was lifeless and his eyes were almost rolled back into his head. I rushed into the game to find Mom and Levi hoping to stimulate him and still no movement. We called Doug to hurry in and thank the Lord we were at the entrance where the EMT unit was. They immediately took Lane, put him on the stretcher and they were headed out the the ambulance. It's almost a blur because it happened so fast. My heart couldn't take looking in at him while they worked on his little body so I just kept getting updates from Doug and Dad. He began seizing there and they had to give him oxygen. We were waiting for an additional ambulance to get there before they could leave with Lane. After what seemed liked forever they said they could wait no longer and took off. This time we were headed here . . .
Doug rode with Lane, while Dad, Mom and I weren't far behind. We left Levi at the game with some good friends, so he was in good hands. When I got to go back to the ER and see him, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief after seeing him move around a little. Evidently, after not being warm to the touch, a rectal temp registered 103 degrees! They started the tylenol and did blood work just watching his temp very closely. Meanwhile, we had a precious group of family and friends gathering at the hospital. In this age of technology, it didn't take long between twitter and facebook before thousands of people were praying for Lane!
After we were able to lower his temp, the consensus was that he had gone through a febrile seizure due to a sudden spike in his temperature. They gave him a high dose of antibiotic for his sore throat and sent us home with the tylenol/motrin routine for the night.
Doug was my rock the whole time and even stayed up through the night to give the meds, check temperature and just watch him sleep! Yesterday, we went to our children's clinic for a follow up and there they confirmed what had happened and gave some further instructions on what we could do if it were to happen again. It's a low chance, around 30%, that it could, but we can't live in constant fear of that. We are back to another round of antibiotic and really watching his temp, especially at night. Doug had to leave yesterday for a conference he is speaking at today at Ouachita and will leave there to go to Junction City, AR for a revival. So, the parents insisted we stay with them for a couple of nights so we could all do the med rounds and some of us get some extra sleep! :o)
Today, I'm officially 35! Yikes - that number just keeps crawling up to 40! We are going to attempt to go to the last ASU game of the season and try this game night again!
And a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sweet sister, Allison! It is so fun to have a twin and to be able to share this day with someone! Love you, Sis!
