Well, here we are in Phoenix, Arizona on September 28. Janet and I went down to attend a medical meeting. My office is going to be a trial site for an investigational antibiotic and we went for training. We phoned my cousin Rona and her husband Jeff Miller. We met them for dinner and I'm happy to say, we were surrounded by Beatles pictures at the restaurant. But best of all, we were able to see Jeff and Rona and catch up. We hadn't seen Jeff since 1988, when we Doxey's went to California to attend Rona's sister, Shaun's wedding. Our baby Rachelle was all of 3 months old. We decided that it would be fun to travel to California on the Amtrack train out of Salt lake and see the Sierra Mountains. We now fondly (?) in our family refer to that eventful train ride as the "Trip to Hell." We couldn't get a sleeping car, but we thought that our children (JJ, age 4, Andrea, age 2 and the aforementioned Rachelle, 3 months) would "sleep like babies" in their seats being gently rocked back and forth by the swaying train. We were supposed to leave SLC at 11 P.M. We took our kids down to the station in their pajamas (with feeties). They didn't sleep a wink all that night, nor did we as parents. The train seemed to crawl along so slowly that we could have walked faster. It stopped at every small town and many times for no reason at all! The Sierras weren't that magnificent from the train (to this day, I don't know why) and we were just glad to get to Oakland for the wedding and sleep in a motel room. Shaun and Greg's wedding was great and it was good to see the extended family, but we will never take little kids on a train again- unless we all have a sleeping berth. Anyway, it was great to catch up with Jeff and Rona and their family.

I AM ANGRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLO! I am angry! Angry at the media. I am sick and tired of them confusing Mormons and polygamy. It's not just in newspapers, but on TV too. I have seen it too many times. I am sick of it. I saw it again in the newspaper "USA Today." I wrote a "letter to the editor" and I hope that they print it, if they dare. They probably won't print it as it is critical of them. Here's the letter.



Sirs:

I am tired of the frequent mistake that the media continue to make regarding the Mormon Church and polygamy. In your paper of Wednesday, Sept 26, there is a headline at the bottom of page 1A which says "Mormon sect leader guilty." In the story on 3A about Warren Jeffs and his FLDS Church, you state that the FLDS Church is "not affiliated with the mainstream Mormon Church." Then why the confusing headline? The church that Warren Jeffs heads is not a "Mormon sect." It is a polygamous group that is independent from the Mormon Church. One would not call the Lutheran Church a "Catholic sect" just because it was a break-off religion from the Catholic Church. You do, however, make it clear in the article that the Mormon Church renounced polygamy over a century ago and excommunicates members who are affiliated with or practice polygamy. Therefore, why do you continue to perpetrate the confusion about polygamy and the Mormon Church, which currently has nothing to do with polygamy and hasn't had anything to do with it for over 100 years. Are you purposefully trying to mislead your readers? Sadly, the average person in the US thinks the Mormon Church still practices this repulsive doctrine, and you are adding to the confusion-particularly for people who only read headlines.

My brother is amazing!!!!!

Here is a picture of my younger brother, Gordon, on a stolen Harley going 140 mph in a residential neighborhood. The picture is blurry because of the excessive speed. I had my $5,000 camera with the fastest film available, and it is still blurry. But you can see that crazed expression he gets on his face when he is going fast with stolen goods. (The police were right behind him!) I'm sorry that the picture didn't show his black socks with his sandals. He loves danger.

Here is a picture of Rachelle and her roommate for the year, Audrey Spainhower. They are at BYU in Provo, Utah. There will actually be six women in the apartment, but Rachelle and Audrey will share a room.

Rachelle was with us for the summer and last Saturday we said good-bye to her as she goes off to BYU for her second school year. Her mother is pictured with her here.
