I Hate Contacts!

Janet has had a difficult time with her new weighted contacts for her astigmatism and has been complaining mightily. I reminded her that I have advised her for years to get rid of her contacts- that they are bad for one's eyes. After all, I don't see many of my colleague ophthalmologists wearing contacts. That should be a clue as to the safety of contacts. Nonetheless, I have been after Janet to get rid of her contacts for years and go with glasses. She asked me when I got my first pair of glasses. I said that I had a non-prescription pair that I got for the OR over 24 years ago so blood wouldn't splash in my eyes during surgery. She wanted to see them so I pulled them out of the archives. She had a good laugh..........



Until I told her that these were actually the refurbished pair that I got for her upcoming birthday- why waste a perfectly good frame?!!! (Why is it that she is rarely enthusiastic about my gifts?)



On another note, Governor Huntsman came by the Doctors' Volunteer Clinic of St. George several weeks ago for a tour. Dave Clark, our local legislator, told him about the Clinic while he was down in Dixie for the Economic Summit. He wanted a tour of the facility. Here is a picture that Janet and I got with him.

The Governor was very interested in the Clinic, asked some thoughtful questions and seemed to be very sincere. He went around and shook the hands of all of the patients in the waiting room and asked each of them about their situations and families. He has an interest in health care reform and wanted to meet with some reporters at our facility, make a policy statement about his ideas regarding health care reform and take questions from the reporters. Even NPR radio was there.
