Family photo

We are so happy to have Scooter and Jessica back in the States from their adventure in England. Scooter graduated with "distinction" from Oxford and he "crawled" for his Master's degree last Saturday. The next day they were back at our house. We were so happy to have everyone together. We are so happy for our family and the love that we have for one other. Adam and Andrea have been living in Salt Lake for the summer as Adam is doing an internship at a law firm there. He has done great at George Washington Law. We all hope that the firm in Salt Lake will hire him next year when he graduates. This photo was taken in our backyard right after we got back from Vegas picking the English couple up at the airport. Right now, they are in Kansas City settling in their apartment, buying a car, and getting ready for the next adventure of medical school. Rachelle is a senior at BYU in Business and Lauren is performing at Lagoon in a Broadway Show.

Happenings!

Janet and I went to England and took a side trip to Croatia with Jessica and Scooter at the end of June. On Father's day, we were travelling up to Leeds to catch a plane for Croatia. Jessica planned a surprise side trip to the area of my forefathers- Derby in Derbyshire, England. We also went to the small town of Doxey which is nearby. Here are a few photos of the places we saw.



We also went to Stonehenge, which for me was something to see but not something to write home about. It was windy. I like this photo of Janet- it is one of my favorites. After Stonehenge, we arrived in Oxford just in time to see Scooter come out of his last written exam. These exams last 3 days. As you can see, he wore the mandatory tux. On the first day of the exam, all student-candidates wear a white carnation in their lapel, signifying purity. On the second day of the exam, the student wears a pink carnation, and on the third day, a red one- meaning that the student has "bled enough."


This poor chap is typical of the party that is going on in the streets with flour, party hats and lots of hard liquor being poured over everyone. I got in the way while I was filming with my video camera and got a blast of flour directly on my camera, coat and shoes. It was fun, actually!






We went punting on the Isis (Thames) River which runs through Oxford. Scooter was the punter.





The buildings and flowers of Oxford were fantastic!





We took a 3 day side trip to Dubrovnik, Croatia. This photo was taken on the city wall. This is a medieval town surrounded by a fortress type wall which is wide at the top - 50 feet wide in places. Think of the Great Wall of China wrapped around a medieval town. It was terrific.




We also went to the matches at Wimbledon when we got back to Oxford from Croatia. Wimbledon has 19 courts- all grass! The tennis facilities were amazing. There are 2 major courts that are huge. Think of 2 major league baseball parks next to each other on the same property - surrounded by 17 other smaller courts
