Days of 47 Parade Float

Most of you have heard (and are probably sick of hearing), how I have been given the best (at least most unique) stake calling ever.  I have been called as the "2015 24th of July Parade Float Chairman" for our stake.  What does that mean?  It means I have $3500 and 1 year to create a parade float for the state's largest parade.  I have been working on this since April of 2014 when I was called, and we are in crunch mode.  We are trying to have the float done by the 4th of July to pilot in a test run at the 4th of July Parade.

Theme:
The theme for the Days of '47 Parade is "Pioneers Forging a New Frontier".  We had to incorporate at least one of the words into our float, and it couldn't be "A" or "New" or have anything to do with Star Trek.  Here was our proposed float design:

And all the lettering (180+ letters that we had to glitter by hand, but boy do they shine!!!).

Hopefully we can meet our July 4th deadline.  Then I can relax for a few weeks until our BIG EVENT (which is actually 5 days long, by the time we do the day we take it to the expo center and set it up, then the two day preview party, then the night before events, and the day of events).  I am pretty much not going to sleep (or work, or do schooling, or karate or cub scouts that week).

But we are about half way there!  Hooray!!!

Natural History Museum of Utah

This weekend we went to the Natural History Museum of Utah.  It was raining but we had fun.

It rained, and Jared and Xander got pooped on by a giant mammal...  Fun times.
