Life On The Road... Again.. some RTT... and HAPPY 84th BIRTHDAY TO MY NANA!!!

Well, it's Tuesday, but I don't really have time to link up with the RTT, but a quick post is in order!

So, I'm back on the road again.  Literally.  My new assignment requires me to fly to St. Louis and then drive 2 hours to Jefferson City.  I've never really had to drive much on a project, so this is all new to me.  I made my first trip yesterday and other than having to get up at the ass crack of dawn for a 6 AM flight, it went pretty well.  The drive wasn't too bad...and actually kind of pretty!

I got a call from my brother today.  The puppies pulled a Houdini and got out of their kennel and had the run of the house for a few hours.  I guess he opened the door and Milli was standing there covered in glitter and feathers.  Apparently she got ahold of the fairy wings I used on Halloween last year that she's been eyeing in the office the last few weeks.  I guess she finally got her way and tore them to shreds! I really think she just wanted to try them on!  Oh well, I think they were $5... not a big deal.  I soooo wish he would have gotten a picture of her (that is NOT Milli in the pic)!

It's amazing how much I miss the dogs.  I've been home with them for 2 months.  Every day.  And now I'm puppy-less for a few days. I wish I could travel with a dog.  Oh well.
I am sooo in need of getting my nails done.  They're seriously fugly right now.

Jefferson City, Missouri, is proving to be a pretty cute little town.  It reminds me sooo much of Montgomery, Alabama, and I like it!  It's a decent size town with a smaller town feel.  I think I could get used to living in a city like this. (Not that I have any intention of moving here!)

Things with the new project are going well and off to a great start.  I'm so excited for this project.  I told my Project Manager today that the last 24 hours has been such a breath of fresh air!
Today is my Nana's birthday... her first birthday without my grandpa... and I wish I could have been there to take her to lunch with my mom and aunt today.  But I called and we chatted and she seems to be doing ok.  She took her first Tai Chi class today and absolutely loved it.  I'm glad she's getting out and starting to establish a routine for herself.  It makes me sad to think she has to do things as a widow now.  But she's strong and will get through it.  She looks elated in that picture!

On a related note, my Nana's sister, my Aunt Elaine is in the hospital right now.  She had to have fluid drained from her heart and they think she has some kind of bone cancer (I'm getting 3rd hand info, so that may not be totally accurate).  Please say a little prayer for her.  She's a very sweet woman and I adore her.

Now I'm getting all emotional.  That means it's time to go.  I do have something very fun and exciting to tell you about though, but I think I'll save that for tomorrow!  I try to keep you wanting more!

Hope y'all are having a great week!

Halloween Is In The Air

Welcome to Day 3 of the Fabulous Fall Blog Challenge hosted by Neely & Amber.  Today's topic is:
What do you do for Halloween / A Halloween memory

Anyone who knows me knows that I love Halloween.  Dressing up and getting to be someone else for one night is such a blast.  I can't say I've ever really gone over the top with any of my costumes, or that I've ever come up with anything super creative, but I love getting all decked out for the occasion.

A few years ago, my friend Noelle and I made ourselves tutus.  Well, I was too busy traveling for work, so she made them for us (after I had made one for Miss Taryn that was sooo adorable!) and they were so cute!  I think we wore them and went as twin Sugar Plum Fairies the last two Halloweens in a row.  Last year I wore a wig (which I'd never done before) and I loved it!  I don't have a picture of the tutu, but this is what I looked like last year.
The year before that I was going to a friend's Halloween Party and wanted to dress up as someone/something awesome!  This party is held annually and is ridiculous!  They empty out their entire fridge (I'm talking the shelves on the door and everything) and fill it with jello and kamikaze shots in little disposable cups!  Everyone gets decked out and it is so much fun.  I decided to go as Amy Winehouse and I think I pulled off the look!
That's Auri and I... we had a second party to go to the following weekend and I wasn't in the mood for much, so I just did some cute makeup and put on my witch's hat.  I think it worked out fine!
This year, I'm not sure if I'm going to dress up or not.  If someone decides to have a party or the girls and I go out somewhere, then I'll probably find something to wear.  If not, I don't think I'll be too disappointed.  As of right now, I don't have the energy for it!  The hat or a wig is always a good backup plan if I need something in a pinch!

What are your plans for Halloween this year?

Random Tuesdayness - Long Time No Tuesday and a Fabulous Fall Blog Challenge

Long time, no Tuesday!  It's been a long while since I did a RTT post and thought today (while I still have an hour left) would be a good time to get back in the saddle!

After my long-ass narrative yesterday, it occurred to me that I kind of forgot to convey the message I was trying to get across.  My main point being this:  Getting old blows.  Big time.  Well, that wasn't entirely my point... What I really wanted to say is that when you're faced with a new reality that you're not necessarily prepared for, it makes you think... a lot.  Being stuck in bed sucked.  But I can handle being stuck in bed.  Realizing that I wasn't able to move on my own, even though it was for a relatively short period of time, was scary as hell.  I COULDN'T EVEN GET UP TO USE THE BATHROOM!  I was literally stuck in bed, lying down, completely dependent on others to care for me.  And it scared the hell out of me.  Feeling totally helpless is not something I ever want to experience again, although, I know that will probably happen at some future point in time.  Maybe next time I'll be better prepared for it.

Anyhoodle, moving right along.  I have a new assignment at work and was actually supposed to be traveling this week. For reasons mentioned earlier, traveling wasn't really an option so I ended up staying home and canceling my trip.  I'm pretty excited to start this new project and get things moving along.  I'll be working in Jefferson City, Missouri, and will be flying in and out of St. Louis.  I'm excited for the opportunity to explore a new city (two, actually) and see a different part of the country.
My friend J over at The Bees Knees introduced me to this and I'm excited to start playing along!

Fabulous Fall Blog Challenge - Neely and Amber give us the topic, we write about it... easy enough!
Day 1 - Fall Traditions (I didn't participate yesterday, so I'm backtracking!)
~~~ I don't know that I have many, if any, Fall traditions.  The first thing that comes to mind is going up to the annual Oktoberfest Festivities (which is held in September and I don't quite understand) at Snowbird Ski Resort.  Snowbird is up Little Cottonwood Canyon and it's such a gorgeous drive up there seeing all the changing leaves.  So pretty!  Other than that, putting up a few decorations is about all I do around the house.
Day 2 - Fall Clothes/Trends/Makeup
~~~I love when the weather starts to cool off because that means it's time for cold-weather clothes!  There's nothing better than getting all bundled up in jeans, a sweater and some fabulous boots to go out for the day!  When it comes to makeup, y'all know I'm a makeup whore, so I can't say I have any makeup trends I go for.  If anything, I tend to wear more lipstick and less gloss, and probably wear more makeup in general.  During the summer when I'm tan and gorgeous, I don't feel the need to wear as much.  I definitely up the amount I wear as I start to lose my color and  look pasty!  When it comes to color, I'll wear just about anything!

Ok kids.... the pain is really starting to get to me which means it's time for bed.  Hope y'all had a fabulous Tuesday and I'll see you soon!

The One Where I Am Stuck In Bed and Can't Pee By Myself

This is gonna be a long one...but I'll tell you where I've been...

It's times like these that I think I need an iPad with a screen to type on instead of a damn keyboard.  These times being the ones when I throw out my back/hip, get stuck in bed for 5 days and can't stand to sit for more than 15 minutes at a time without causing severe pain, and thus have to type a blog post while lying down and holding the laptop on my prone body.  You're jealous, I know.
My hip has been on the fritz for the last few weeks.  I suspect the reason being that I've spent a lot of time sitting at the kitchen table working and crafting my life away.  And my kitchen chairs, while comfortable, are not in any way ergonomic.  I'd have been working in my home office, but it's easier to sit downstairs with the dogs while they run around and slowly drive me insane instead of running up and down the stairs every 5 minutes.  Looking back, I should have put the dogs in the kennel, shut myself in my office, plopped my tush in my fabulous office chair, and worked my days away in there.  Oh well.  Too late for that!

Last Wednesday night I was working on my effing apron (that's what it'll be referred to as from here on out) and sitting at my kitchen table at the sewing machine.  As I got up from the table my hip and part of my lower back started to lock up.  I tried walking back and forth from the kitchen to the family room to help it settle down, but it apparently had its own agenda. At 11 PM I ended up on the couch and had to have my dear friend Jessica fetch things for me and put me to bed because I wasn't able to move.  I spent the night on the couch, eventually was able to roll onto my side, and by 7 AM was finally able to make it up the stairs to my bed.

I spent the next seven hours in bed, took a conference call, and made contact with my doctor's office.  The doc called in a muscle relaxer to the pharmacy for me and my mom picked it up.  She and my dad were on their way to the airport and dropped my drugs off to me on their way.  I was able to walk downstairs and meet them at the door and figured walking back up wouldn't be an issue.  Boy, was I wrong.  I got to the top of the stairs while shooing the dogs out of the way, took a few steps into my room and that's when things went from bad to OHMYFUCKINGHELLITHINKI'MGOINGTODIE!  Everything in my lower back and right hip locked up, went into a full muscle spasm and subsequently put me in bed for the next four days.  Before I walked up the stairs, I put the remote, my phone and my prescription in my purse to carry it all up with me.  I dropped my purse on the floor when I got into my room and wasn't able to bend over to pick it up.  My phone (my only lifeline to anyone) was not within my reach.  I had no access to the drugs that might potentially help me out of this bind, and I couldn't walk.  Awesome.  On top of that, the dogs were out of their kennel and I could only imagine the damage the puppy was going to do to the house.

I somehow made it over to my bed, and thank all that is holy, my brother came home for lunch literally 5 minutes later and I screamed for him to help me.  I was hysterical, in so much pain, and was completely immobile.  I have never felt so helpless in my entire life.  He helped me get situated and then had to go back to work.  He put the dogs in their kennels and I was thankfully able to sleep for the next couple of hours.  I woke up around 6 PM and the puppy proceeded to cry and whine for almost the next 2.5 hours.  I couldn't get out of bed to let her out or comfort her and it broke my heart.

Jessica, Kasian and Brittany came over around 9 PM and were set on taking me to the ER.  I would very willingly have gone except 1) I couldn't actually move to get out of bed, and 2) The only thing the ER would have done was put me on pain meds which I cannot tolerate.  I called the answering service for my doctor and spoke with the doc on-call.  He confirmed my thoughts about the ER, told me to rest, use heat, take ibuprofen and call my doc in the morning.  We tried calling Auri but she was at work and I didn't have her work number.  The three of them helped me get comfy and Jess stayed with me until I fell asleep.  I seriously have the greatest friends.
Auri called me early Friday morning and was so upset she wasn't able to help me the night before when we called.  Since she worked a night shift she told me she'd sleep her minimum amount of time and then come over and help me that afternoon.  In the meantime (more like Thursday night), I had decided eating and drinking were not an option because I couldn't move, which also means I couldn't get out of bed or get to a bathroom (even though I have an en suite bathroom that is mabye 15 feet from my bed).  I had to call my brother (I figured calling him would wake him up more efficiently than me hollering from my room with the door shut) at 5 AM to try and help me to the bathroom.  I tried, but couldn't support myself with any weight at all and ended up just getting back in bed.  I rang him again around 9, and that time was finally able to go pee.  It wasn't easy, but it was a big relief!

Later that afternoon, Auri came over and was seriously my angel.  She got me out of bed and helped me shuffle into the bathroom where she stripped me and put me in the shower.  (Believe me, I needed it but was terrified I wouldn't be able to handle it.)  She bathed me from top to bottom and everything in between.  You know it's love when your best friend has to wash your bum for you because you can't do it.  She soaped me up, rinsed me down and dried me off; she got me dressed, put my deodorant on, got me back into bed and even rubbed my arms down with some lavender oil.  I have never felt so helpless yet humble and loved before in my whole life.

I spent all of Friday, Saturday, Sunday and most of today on my back in bed.  Yeah, totally my idea of a fabulous weekend.   I was finally able to get of of bed Friday night and, get this... walk to the bathroom ALL BY MYSELF!  Once I crossed that hurdle, things started getting a little easier, I think mostly because I knew I could get to where I needed to be.  As long as it was either the toilet or my bed!  Luckily, after Friday night, I started to slowly regain some mobility.  Each 6 hours that passed gave me just a little bit more movement.

Until you have to contemplate who you'd be willing to call to help you pee while lying in bed, or who you'd ask to wipe your butt, you've never been in a situation like this.

My brother has surprisingly been really great these last few days.  He's checking on me, getting me whatever I need, and taking care of the house.  It's great that he's here, or I'd be in a world of hurt.

Auri came over again last night to shower me and wash my hair.  She truly is an angel.  She loofahed me, combed out my hair, emptied my garbages, vacuumed my room, and lord knows what else while she was here.  She is the best friend ANYONE could ever ask for.  (This time I was able to wash my own bottom, thankyouverymuch, so hey, we're making progress!)

I went to see my doctor today and we discussed some options.  She gave me a prescription for some pain meds that are non-narcotic because they make me deathly ill.  Hopefully getting the pain under control will help me start moving around and get this all rehabilitated.  Such a pain in my ass... literally!  The only good thing to come out of all this is that I've lost 10 pounds.  Lying in bed and not eating will do that, I guess!

I'm feeling pretty good as of now, and am really hoping to be even better when I get up in the morning.  I still have pain, but at least I'm mobile.  It's pretty sad though that I'm not terrified of going up the stairs.  I'm gonna have to take that slowly the rest of the week.  I'll be back with an update tomorrow and hopefully something more entertaining than my sob story!

Stabby Stabby Stabby - Keep the Shivs Away From Me

Do you ever have one of those days when you want to severely maim someone, let the dogs run out the front door, and burn the house down?  Yeah?  Well, I'm having one of those days.  And in Odum's words, "I'm over it!"  Actually, I'm more than over it.  And that would be because I've been feeling like this for a few weeks now.  I'm 100%  totally and completely overwhelmed with everything and all I want to do is scream and sleep.  Not necessarily in that order.  Sometimes concurrently, though.

You know how when everything everyone says or does just gets under your skin?  If someone looks at you across the wrong wavelength, sideways, or just toward your general direction, it sends you into orbit and it takes everything from the depths of your soul not to run up and over the table you're sitting at to shank them?  Or maybe how you ask the person you live with (whether that be a family member, a spouse, a child, or some random homeless guy from the corner) to do one little thing to help you out, and it either takes that person 34 days to complete the aforementioned task, or they just don't feel like doing it, and don't?

So then, because you've so royally had it with EVERYTHING that you finally give in and do the thing you asked your housemate to do 47 days ago because you're sick of living in filth, and then feel even more angry/pissed off/hurt/stabby that you gave in and did the thing you SWORE YOU WOULD NOT DO simply on principle?!  And now... he's won, but you don't want to admit defeat... although, you've gone through and emptied and loaded two cycles of the dishwasher, so technically I AM AHEAD because the dishes are all caught up on... so yeah.  What the fuck ever.  I win.  Suck it.

And then... you know how when you fall so unbeliveably head-over-heels in love with the love of your life and he happens to live 500 miles away in Denver and you try to make as many trips out there as possible to see him because you want to see each other as much as humanly possibly given you live in different states and you're so crazy in love {big deep breath} and then he realizes that the only place he can find work is in Texas, so he packs up and moves down there to work and make a shitload of money for the next two years?  Yeah.  All I have to say, is he better end up making so much GD Effing money that I'm blinded by it and forget about the fact that he's going to be that much further away from me and that much more difficult to get to and forget that I miss him as much as I do.  Seriously, I miss him like it's nobody's business and I want to be as physically close as possible to him at all times although I realize that's probably not conducive to him making shitloads of money. Or myself, for that matter.  (Disclaimer: Money is not everything, but money definitely has the ability to make life a hell of a lot easier than not having money!)  In any case, I miss him terribly and want him in my bed to snuggle with me.  I miss him I miss him I miss him!  It's not fair that he had to move further away, not closer to me.  The world is working against me!!!

I took this picture of my Dad snuggling with his new little buddy on the couch last night.  (That's Milli... she had her ears clipped last week and is sporting the latest in puppy fashion, The Fez.  Try not to be jealous... it's a one-of-a-kind bitches!)  He told me not to take it and absolutely not to put it online, and because I'm feeling incredibly defiant at the moment, I'm posting it... for a few reasons: 1) The puppy is cute, and it's kind of a cute picture, 2) My dad looks pissed, 3) My dad and the puppy are snuggling even though he won't admit it, or that he kind of likes her, and 4) The look on his face basically illustrates the look I've had on my face all day... and will probably continue to sport for the rest of the week.

Alright, it's past midnight, past the time limit I set for myself, and therefore, I must retire to my comfy bed.  As with BigMamaCass, I'm going to try to return to blogging more regularly.  Maybe we can keep eachother on track?  We'll see.  See y'all tomorrow!

Crafting, Cooking and Missing My Man

Well, it's been so long since I've blogged, I came back to find there's an entirely new spread over here on Blogger.  So far, I think I like it, but I'll have to play around with it for a bit.  I've got to admit, I've been in a bit of a funk, in case my absence led you to think I was off gallavanting around having ridiculous amounts of fun instead of blogging.  The silly thing is, I've missed blogging, I just haven't really had the drive to do much of anything the last couple of weeks.  I've got to figure out what's wrong with me!  Maybe it's my new bedding... it's just so damn comfy that I don't want to get out of bed!  It's cute though, huh?  And before you ask, yes, it's from IKEA... I've seen it in ads all over the place lately.  Well, just to clarify, I had it before the ads came out!  (And don't mind the bleached out pillow cases from the benzoyl peroxide I STILL have to use on my face because I STILL have effing acne!)
Moving right along... about the only thing I have been motivated to do lately is craft.  So I've been doing a lot of it.  I got this cute star at a friend's garage sale a couple of months ago and it was a bit banged up.  My friend Wiki suggested to Mod Podge it with scrapbook paper... so I did... and it's cute!  The paper wasn't quite long enough, and cutting it out was a pain in the arse, so I'm going to paint the tips, adorn the seams with ribbon, and glue a cute button in the middle.  I'll post a picture of it when I'm done!
Next item on the list is my book thongs... I tweeted to a writer friend of mine that I need to give her a book thong to add to her collection of book marks and she asked if she could buy some from me to use in her book giveaways!  Um, hells yes!  Then Cassi suggested I open an Etsy store and see if anyone would be interested in buying them.  So, I did.  And now I have an Etsy store!  I've only got one on there so far, but I'll have a few more to add by the end of the week.  So if you're interested, check back for sure!
This is my baby while he was talking on the phone to me at Cassi's house.  I love him so much and I miss him like you wouldn't even know.  This long distance thing sucks.  Have I mentioned that before?  Because it does.  And he just got an awesome new job, but that means he'll be moving even further away from me and I just want to cry.  Everything will work out, it's just going to be hard in the meantime.  Have I mentioned I miss him like crazy?
Money has been a bit tight so I've been trying to cook at home and I'm having quite a bit of fun with it.  I just wish it wasn't so time consuming.  And it's probably only time consuming because I'm an amateur!  On the stove there you see two platters of sour cream, chicken, and chive enchiladas and a pan of Spanish Rice (from a box).  Dinner was pretty good that night.  There are a few changes to the recipe I'll make next time, but it's good stuff!  I also did Peach Whiskey BBQ chicken along with Garlic Smashed Potatoes earlier in the week.  That went over very well!  For dessert I tried Salted Caramel covered Brownies.  One batch of brownies and three batches of caramel later, I wasn't happy with the outcome.  I tried it all out again 2 days later and perfected it!  If you're nice, I'll link you to the recipe!
This is my current drain of time an energy during the day.  My brother got a new puppy, and I'm the one who gets to take care of her because I happen to work from home during the day.  At least she's cute.  And she is SUPER CUTE when she's asleep and cuddling with her Sissy.  That's my favorite time of day... when they're both asleep and not playing/fighting/running in-and-out of the dam doggie door!
Onto the next craft project... I've been watching copious amounts of Cupcake Wars on the Food Network lately and am intrigued by all the contestants cute aprons!  Naturally, I decided I need to make one of my own, so I bought the fabric, found a pattern, and employed my frined Wikiball to help me out (and I begged her to let me use her sewing machine)!  The Apron will be in red with white polk-a-dots (as seen above) and then it'll have two pockets made out of the black swirly material on the left below.  Cute huh?  I'm so excited to get the whole thing done!  After that, I'm going to start on a half apron with the fabric below on the right.  I'm in love with it!  I really need to get a sewing machine.  I feel bad having to use someone else's for all these projects I want to do!  I'll be taking donations...
Naturally, when I get done, I'll blog about how fabulous a seamstress I am and show off my wears.  Until then, y'all will have to wait and get the pics of the raw materials.  I've got one more project in the hopper, and I'll hopefully get that done in the next few days so I can show it to you as well.

I hope y'all are doing well... I'm having a little procedure in the afternoon and am a bit nervous for it, so wish me luck!  Maybe blogging while on Valium will be interesting... I can give it a try, but I promise nothing!  Talk to you soon!
Ciao!
