Random Conversations #9

In family scripture study we just finished the bulk of Isaiah in 2 Nephi (Book of Mormon). Yeah!

This morning Price was reading 2Nephi 26:33. He got to the part where it says that God invites all to come unto him

Price: and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, blonde and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile

Do you think Price's mind was on our morning scripture study?
It actually says bond and free, that does make more sense.

Conversations while doing hair #11

Rob and Lane are going on a field trip to the zoo today. Rob was making Lane's lunch while I was giving her pig tails. Rob came in and asked Lane if she wanted Cheddar or Swiss cheese.

Lane: Cheddar, definitely
Me: You know Swiss is better for you
Lane: So, it tastes all Swisshy

Rob snuck up on Eliza and gave her a big kiss on the cheek. She gave him a dirty look and wiped it off.

Rob: You can't wipe it off it is stuck there.
Eliza grumbles and turns to me: Mom, I need a wipe.

It is really hard for me to believe that I have done this four times before this. I don't know what I am doing. It is really quite sad.

Breakfast Conversations #2

Lane and Marley went to play with their cousins last night. Jillie taught Lane to play two songs on the piano. Lane has been practicing those songs all morning. While we were eating breakfast she seranaded us with "Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater," then she came to the table and said...

Lane: If you guys said "enchore," I would play you another one.

Home from school conversations #3

Eliza and I went out to lunch with my Grandmother. We went to a Chinese supermarket and looked at all of the different things to eat and buy. Grandmother bought us some Chinese cookies and Lane and Eliza tried them. They were not much of a hit.

Lane: I don't like these at all.... Mom, you really should try them.
Me: That's OK I'm not hungry, I'll try them later.
Lane: Maybe I'll try them again.... I'll have to wait until I am much older...Or just seven.

A Twisted Family Home Evening

By the end Lane and Marley were just trying to see how crazy of a pose they could come up with.

Ring-Pops

Rob surprised the kids and brought home ring-pops after work for no reason at all.

Random Conversations #7

Me: Marley will you go get some butter from the outside fridge?


Marley: Would you like to hear about our journey to get the butter?
Me: sure
Marley: First we went through the forest of can't-see-ums and almost got chased out by them, went down the mountain of integration, then we went into the forest of butter, we had to wick away the leaves to let the sun shine through, then we found the fridge of food, we opened it and the butter was not on the door, then we looked in the freezer above the fridge and it wasn't there either, there was one more freezer to check and we looked in there. It was on the door. The we went back up the mountain of integration into the forest of can't-see-ums and they almost chased us out because they are attracted to butter.

Backyard campout

When our cousins were here the girls wanted to camp out in the back yard. It was cold out and we thought there was no way they would last, so we told them they could do it. They spent most of the day setting up their tent, gathering food and activities to do in the tent all night.

They were so excited to go to bed.

About 15 minutes later Paige, one of the five girls came in, she was scared. Then 10 minutes after that Marley came in with a sheepish smile, I think she just wanted a good excuse to come in and Paige gave her that. We set up a bed inside the house for the rest of the girls. Surely they would get scared and come in.
This is how I found Haley, Sydney and Lane the next morning. I asked if they were cold but they said they were really warm. They had put two sleeping bags under them and then two on top of them. They said they didn't get scared at all.

I love brave girls!!!

Marley to Lane: Hmmmm how can we figure this out? I mean eenie-meenie-minie-mow is so last month. How about rock-paper-scissors, I think it is random enough.

Conversations Overheard #5

There is an email going around that talks about a woman who got sick. They thought she had a brain tumor but in sugery found out that it was a worm growing in her brain. YUCK! It is passed when someone goes to the bathroom, does not wash their hands, then prepares food, and someone eats it. They show the whole surgery and everything. It is pretty gross. Well, Lane and Eliza watched it with me this morning. About an hour later I heard Eliza in the bathroom washing her hands and singing this.


Eliza: I am not gonna get a worm in my brain...... Oh no, not again.

If anyone is having trouble getting their kids to wash their hands, I'll email it to you. I think this is the ticket.

Breakfast Conversations

Me: What did you guys do last night?
Marley: We watched American Idol.
Sydney: Did you know they were in Phoenix, AZ?
Me: And we didn't even try out?
Marley: Well we wouldn't even have made it, but Tanner didn't even try out.

Lane: That is good. Side pony tails are climby.
Me: What do you mean by climby?
Lane: You know, climby. It will be good for when I am climbing the tree after school.

Eliza had a runny nose and I grabbed some toilet paper to wipe it.

Eliza: Ugh Mom, that's disdusting, that's for wiping you bum not you nose.

Home Improvements

Rob and I bought this house a couple of years ago. It is a bit of a fixer-upper. It is over thirty years old which, believe it or not ,is quite old here. We started looking at houses that had at least an acre of land and when we walked into this back yard we fell in love with the place because of the huge cottonwood trees. You don't even feel like you are in the desert back there. So you could say we bought a yard that happened to come with a house for us to live in. We have been working on improving the house and yard pretty constantly since we bought it. The house will probably never be done. In someways it feels like having a big expensive doll house. I have come to love the smell of home improvements; paint , drywall, stain, new carpet, saw dust, etc.

This is our latest project, a new patio in the back yard. My brother, Taylor's guys did the work and they are really good. We love it!! They tore out our old patio that made all water run to our back door right where the dog sits. They poured a new patio and made it continue around the pool. We also put concrete where Rob parks so he doesn't have to park in the dirt any more. They are going to stain it next week unless we get a lot of rain.

While they were pouring the concrete it was raining off and on. Then it continued to rain for four days after that. Our patio stayed dry the entire time. So thanks Taylor, our dog thanks you too.

Marley: Are you still a dolphin?
Eliza: No I am just Liza.
Marley: Is Eliza afraid of MONSTERS!!!!
Eliza: YEAH and the dolphin is too.
Marley: I am a monster!!!
Eliza: AAAAAAhhh......EEEEEp, EEEEEp

Conversations while you should be in school

Background: Everyone has had a bit of a challenge recovering from our Christmas break. It has been especially hard on Lane. When she woke up this morning she kept telling me how "exhausted" she was and how she felt so sick. She felt like she just didn't get enough sleep last night. (10 hours) I let her stay home. If you can't skip kindergarten then what can you skip? Rob's birthday is coming up next week so we went shopping for him. When I suggested that we go to the mall this was the response I got.

Lane: Mom, if you are trying to punish me, I'm having the greatest time!

fyi: I love when Lane stays home. She plays with Eliza who is happier because of it. She is the hardest worker. She will do anything I ask her to do if she feels like she is getting away with something. If she figures that out we could both be in a lot of trouble.

Bedtime Conversations

Eliza: Mommy do Laney and me get to sleep in our own bed tonight?
Me: Yes, you do.
Eliza: Yeah!

Food

I am sorry for anything I have ever thought about someone whose child is a picky eater. If you haven't dealt with it, it is really hard to understand. I am living my penance currently.

Final vacation post

We had so much fun!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who drove such long hours to support Tara and Julian in their wedding. Thank you to everyone who stayed with us, we had a great time. Thanks for all of your help with food and keeping things as clean as was possible. You have great families. I am so glad that our kids have such fun cousins to grow up with. You are all the best!!!!

One More Try

So the weather warmed up a bit and we decided to give the lake one more try. We bundled up, again and went for it.

By the end of our trip the kids were getting cold. They hid from the wind on the ground.

It is so fun to be with cousins!!!

New Years Day

On New Years Day we went on a hike to the Waterfall at the white tanks. It is a great hike, about one mile in and another out. It isn't too hard for the little kids but challenging enough for everone else. Fun!

The older kids hiked ahead of everyone else alone. They are growning up.
These little girls ran almost the entire way there.
They both were carried most of the way back. Cousins are the best!
We finally made it to the trickle otherwise known as a waterfall. To get in to see it you have to rock hop and then get out the same way. When we were trying to leave there was a bottle neck to get out. The guys were all busy doing something else so the three women got all 14 of our kids out safely while people were waiting behind us and in front of us. We only had to sacrifice a few pairs of wet shoes.
What would we do with out moms?

The Wedding

Here are some pictures from Tara and Julian's wedding. It turned out so well. Tara looked beautiful. We loved having her live near us for the past four years. She is on her way toward a great life!

We will miss her immensely!

Sydney: she is just looking too old, I checked her birth certificate and yes she is still 10. Now if I could just get her to stand up straight.

Marley: Blossomed in front of an audience.

Lane: She is so sweet. The next day we were talking about the wedding and she said she almost cried during the wedding. I asked her if it was because she was scared and she said, no it was just so special.

Eliza: I was worried about her. You never know what a two year old is going to do but she just slowly walked down the aisle and dropped her petals just like she was supposed to.
