Student of the Month #4

Price had a funny thing going on this year. He had a home room teacher that he didn't have for any of his classes at school. When all of the girls got to be the student of the month he told me, not to expect him to be one because he teacher doesn't really even know him. Well the last month of the school year his homeroom teacher had the kids in the class vote who should be the last student of the month and Price was it. So cool!

Conversations overheard #8

Eliza to me at 10:00 in the morning: Mom, can I have some ice cream?
Me: No, it's too early

about 30 seconds later
Eliza to Syd: Can I have some icecream?
Syd: What did Mom say?
Eliza: Just get me some icecream.

Who did it?

Now that my kids are getting older they all sleep through the night, every night. They are good at it. It is what is expected of them.

Just recently I had one of those nights when I get woken up by different kids periodically the entire time I should have been sleeping. There was a time in my past when that wouldn't have rocked me one bit, perhaps because I younger then, perhaps because I was so used to it.

After this particular night I had done pretty well most of the day but after dinner I sat down to watch American Idol with the kids and fell deep asleep. I think I wasn't out for very long but when I woke up this is what I found.

There isn't one cream filling left in any of those Oreos.
Me: Hey what'cha doing Eliza?
Eliza: Nupping

Eye brows

My friend Julie came over to teach me how to wax eyebrows. Sydney was willing to be the ginny pig. Thanks Julie, I think that I might be addicted. If you see me one day and I don't have any eyebrows left that will be my cry for help.

They look good don't they. (the eyebrows)

Thanks again Julie!

Conversations overheard #7

Marley: So who do want for a first grade teacher?
Lane: I don't even know who the first grade teachers are.
Marley: Well you don't want Mrs. _________
Lane: Why not?
Marley: Because she uses her whistle like, secondly.
Sydney: What is that supposed to mean?
Marley: What, you've never heard of yearly, monthly, daily?

She did it!

My beautiful little graduate. Seriously isn't she gorgeous!

Mrs. Beerman, everything you could ever want in a kindergarten teacher!

Side note: I had no idea how fancy everyone would get for kindergarten graduation. I tried to convince Lane to wear a dress but she really didn't want to so we just got her a new outfit (t-shirt, shorts, and new tennis shoes.) She was the only girl not in a dress and there was at least one boy wearing a suit. People had balloons, and flowers. They got all of their other kids out of school to come watch, Dads took off work. This was a big deal. Who knew? It was only my fourth child to go through this.

When Eliza graduates from kindergarten watch out! We are going to get her a new evening gown, take her to get her nails done. We'll have balloons, a dozen long stem roses and invite all of our friends and relatives. You better watch out or you will be on our list.

Lane: So you are going to come to my water day at school.
Me: Yeah, but just for a little while
Lane: Water day is tomorrow and then graduation the next day....I don't think I am ready.
Me: To graduate from kindergarten?
Lane: Huh?...Yeah!

A fun weekend

Rob and I met some of our great friends Kelly and Beverly in Las Vegas for the weekend. We had a great time. The boys went to a dental convention while Beverly and I shopped, we hung out by the pool and had delicious smoothies. At night we saw Jersey Boys (great music, horrible language), we also saw Ka by Cirque De Sole (amazing! I'd explain why but it would take too long. If you have the chance you really should see it.)

I just had to throw in this picture of Kelly doing his thang.

Beverly is one of my favorite people to shop with. I can't put my finger on just why but we have the same shopping style if that makes sense. In fact we were joking that our relationship was built around shopping. When Rob and Kelly were in dental school and we were young moms whose kids were too little to be too demanding of our time we would call each other up bored out of our minds and go walk around the mall. We knew we had spent a lot of time perhaps too much time at the mall when our three little boys who were all less than 3 years old would hold up an item of clothing and say "cute!"
It has been 13 years and 8 kids later and our shopping love is still alive!

FHE at the lake

Ever since the weather has permitted we have been spending the majority of Family Home Evenings doing this. Usually around 1 or 2 in the afternoon I get a call from Rob or one of his cronies saying that we are going to the lake (if it is OK with me.) Justin and Scott come over to hook up the boat and they go get gas, so I don't have to (thanks). I rush around getting snacks, dinner and everything for the kids. The kids walk in the door from a day at school. I say "we're going to the lake!" Everyone lets out a scream and runs around getting their swimsuits on and sunscreened up. Then about 15 minutes later we are on our way. Rob finds a way to get home early or I tow the boat up and he meets us there.

This is the look Rob has on his face whenever we are at the lake. I love it!

Brave girls, the first ones willing to get in the cold water for a little fun.
The Smiths and Leons

I LOVE this picture of Lane!

The Kings

Rob was giving rides and asked if anyone wanted one. Almost all the kids jumped on and I got off onto the Smith's boat. He was busy giving all the kids rides while the rest of the adults sat an talked. Sorry for desserting you Rob, but I had a great time.

A beautiful sunset

The trip back in
Thanks for all of the great memories you guys! We'll see you up there next Monday!!

That apple juice has a funny after taste

Rob took Price to the ER last night and I stayed home with the girls. Price got in really fast and everything was going so well. At least that is what it seemed. They were "done" setting Price's arm at the emergency room. The doctors were wrapping things up when they realized what they thought was a scratch on that arm was actually his bone coming through the skin. (This is where my stomach starts to hurt again.) Therefore classifying it as a compound fracture that wasn't set. They decided that he needed to go to Phoenix Children's Hospital so Pediatric doctors could clean out his wound and attempt to set the bone, again. While Price was on his ambulance ride, somewhere around 1 AM, Rob picked me up so we could go to the hospital and my great friend Melynda came to sleep over with the kids.

We had been at the hospital for a while when they wanted to try and set the bones one last time to avoid surgery. They wheeled Price into a room that was quite a bit bigger. Our nurse (I wish I could remember her name but my mind is mush) administered the drug to put Price to sleep and then at least six people(nurses, doctors, etc.) came walking into the room strapping on lead aprons. The aprons were so they could x-ray him multiple times during the procedure to assure the bones were moving in the right direction. The nurse told us that we would want to leave at that time (she was right, I've seen too many movies where they are setting someones bones.) Rob and I sat in a tiny little "Family Room" waiting. One of the doctors came in about 45 minutes later as well as a nurse. They were both sweaty and out of breath. The doctor said that it was pretty tricky because every time they would get the bones in place they would slide out again so they had to strategically get the bones in place and set the splint to keep them there. That doctor was fairly confident that he would avoid surgery. I hope!

After that we basically sat waiting for Price to wake up enough to drink some apple juice, eat a Popsicle and be able to walk. He woke up pretty quickly and downed some apple juice because he was so thirsty. Everyone was afraid he would throw it up but he just went back to sleep. Out of no where Price would blink his majorly blood shot eyes over and over and say, "That apple juice has a funny after taste." Kind of funny and a bit disturbing watching your child come out of a drug induced sleep.

We finally got home this morning at around 7AM. Just in time for Rob to take a shower and go to work. I hope this makes sense. Thank you everyone for your comments and calls. We feel so supported with great friends and family.

Warning

Warning: If you have a queasy stomach don't look at the following pictures. It makes me a little sick just thinking about it.

So I send my son to Scouts and believe that he is going to be just fine. They are just working on the Rollerblading Merit Badge. I didn't even know there was a rollerblading merit badge. Then I get a call from Rob saying that Price broke his arm. I really thought that he was kidding me. I guess I was wrong.

Rob and Price were supposed to leave for the Father and Son's campout tomorrow.

School is over and Summer starts in just over one week.

Scout camp is about two weeks away.

He really could have timed this better.

Be careful what you pray for

I prayed for enough time to get everything done that I need to

result: A virus attacked our computer and we haven't had one for almost two weeks.

Conversations while doing hair #13

Lane: Awgh, I wish my nose would quit running
Me: I know, you think it would be tired by now
Lane: What that makes no sense
Me: Well you get tired when you run a lot. You think your nose would too.
Lane: That isn't very funny.
Price from the other room: I thought it was hilarious.
