Me:  Hey Liza go get dressed so we can do our chores
Eliza:  But Mom, it's not Friday, Saturday or Wednesday
Me:  It's Saturday

Random Conversations #94

A song while cleaning the bathroom, by Eliza

Oh, I love cleaning toilets!
I am so good at cleaning toilets!
I wish I was a janitor so I could clean a lot more toilets, everyday!

That is until I told her she had to do more than just scrub the toilet bowl.  That she had to wipe down everything else...including the floor behind the toilet.  Then she got a little mad.

Eliza:  One more thing that wouldn't be good about being a janitor, is that you would have to clean up the vomit.

Eliza:  This tea party has been just "fab!"

Lane:  What happened to the "ulous?"

Eliza:  That is what kids are saying these days.

Lane:  Yes, fabulous is so 5 years ago.

Marley:  It is so difficult being the top fashion designer in all of San Francisco and most parts of America.

Lane:  Pricey, darling, your popcorn is ready.

Las Vegas

If you are not a drinker, gambler, smoker, or sunbather what is there for you in Las Vegas....really?

Rob had a conference and wanted me to come. 

Yeah, I was pretty much dreading it.

There was so much to do at home and Rob would be in conferences all day.

What would I do with myself?  Alone?  I'm never alone...

To preface this let me just say, we stayed in an amazing room at the Aria hotel on the 29th floor.  When we opened the door for the first time, the lights dimly lit and the curtains opened to reveal the Las Vegas sky line.  Seriously, who thinks of stuff like that.  I was impressed!

I'll tell you what I did...

1.  I didn't make breakfast, lunch, or dinner for anybody

2.  I read a good book, the whole thing

3.  I slept in as long as I wanted to

4.  I took long baths, in the incredible bathtub (while reading my book),

when the water got cold... I just added some more

5.  When I felt like it, I walked around outside

6.  When I felt like it, I shopped a little

7.  When I felt like it, I watched whatever I wanted to on TV

(which surprisingly enough did not include Disney channel or ESPN)

8.  I ate lunch with my favorite guy

9.  I took an afternoon nap (while he went back to his conference)

When Rob got done every day we cranked it up a few notches and were busy doing things the whole time

What we did together...

1.  Walked miles and miles up and down the strip

2.  We ate really good Italian food

3.  Saw the Blue Man Group

4.  Ate really good sandwiches

5. Shopped a little

6.  We ate really good steaks

7.  Saw a Cirque de Soleil

8.  Went to bed after 2:00AM every night

Seriously, one of the best vacations of my life!

I usually come home from a vacation more tired than when I left. 

Not this one!

Random Conversations #89

I was taking a shower and Eliza came and stuck her head in

Eliza:  Hey Mommy, will you leave the water on?  I want to take a shower.
Me:  Sure but Natalie is coming over to swim, do you just want to wait until after?
Eliza:  OK

A few minutes go by and I never heard her leave so I look out there and she is quietly sitting on the toilet with nothing on.

Me:  Eliza, what are you doing?
Eliza:  If it is ok with you, I just want to take a cold shower so I can chill out.

The Promotion Audience

We got there a little early to get a good seat.  The family was a bit annoyed to not walk in at the last second like most everyone else.

I told everyone to squeeze together so I could take their picture.  This is what I got.

They were all just so excited to be there.  Especially Eliza, if looks could kill...

 Seriously 10 minutes later, those bleachers were packed!  We had a hard time saving seats for Grammy and Papa.

8th Grade Promotion Dress

Sydney was pretty particular when it came to the dress she wanted for her 8th grade promotion.  She wanted lace, but not the kind that is black on top with some skin color underneath.  No!  We both wanted something cute and beautiful that wouldn't make my 13 year old look like a floozie with too much of those long legs hanging out.  It is sad that it is so hard to find.

We looked everywhere the internet and the malls around here.  

We even looked in Utah (we were up there anyway.)  I didn't know what we were going to do.  

That's when Sydney said, Mom you should just make it.

Sydney and I designed this dress

We went to our favorite fabric store, SAS, 

We found the perfect material, it is a charcoal liner with peach lace on top and bought a lot of it.  (Incase we messed up or changed our minds)

I sat down at my sewing machine and followed the example of my mom when she was making our prom dresses, said a prayer

The sleeves and the skirt were made a few different times.

 I really didn't want her dress to scream, my mom made this for me!

Every time that I felt unsure of myself or didn't know what to do Syd would just tell me, I know you can do it! 

She might have been wishful thinking or just scared she wasn't going to end up with a dress at all but I believed her.

We finally ended with a lightly pleated skirt, and cap sleeves.

Kindergarten Graduation

I'm choosing not to be sad that my baby just graduated from Kindergarten.

That is my choice because I can't stop it 

and Eliza is too delightful to not want to see what she will turn out to be someday.
