well, we've entered the next phase.
the chubbers took his first steps over the weekend.
IT WAS SO EXCITING!!!!
i almost started crying. i don't think he really understood what he was doing, but he was sure laughing at us because we were laughing and so excited at what he was doing. we're still practicing to get him to do it more and more, but i'm sure this is the next challenge we'll have. it's funny how everything has moved up a few feet in our house. if you need anything - check the shelves first. it's probably not close to the floor where it's supposed to be.
last night we went and bought the chubbers some squeakers shoes. now, for those of you who think they are annoying or would never buy them - let me tell you - they made my little boy smile and laugh with such happiness. to see that smile on his face the first time he walked with them on was totally amazing and fun. even the cashiers at the store were laughing at how cute he was and how happy they made him. i'm not sure grandpa was too excited about them this morning when i dropped the chubbers off. he said "how do you make them stop?" and i said - take them off. i think it might be a long day at their house.
i'll admit it - i'm the mom who would do anything to make my little boy smile. within reason, of course.
on a different note - i haven't posted any recipes in awhile. sorry about that. we've been trying lots of new recipes and have found some really good ones. i'll paraphrase one here - i don't have the recipe with me. and i can't remember which magazine i got this from - so i'm sending credit out to whatever magazine published it.
these are a milder version of a lemon bar - so mild and so yummy.
the crust:
1 lemon cake mix
1 cube of butter
1 egg
mix together and press into the bottom of a greased 9 x 13 pan
the filling:
1 square of cream cheese
1 tub thing of lemon frosting
mix together.
take out 1/2 a cup and set aside in the fridge
mix in 2 eggs to the remaining filling
pour the filling on top of the crust
bake at 350 for 35 - 40 minutes - until the middle is set.
take out, cool for 1 hour on the counter
put in the fridge to cool for at least 2 hours
when you're ready to serve, frost the top with the 1/2 cup you set aside.
i've made this twice in the last week - sooooooooooo good.

another first
yes, i've become THAT mother.
we are now a collecting family. we collect small toys from children's meals served at local restaurants. don't be jealous that we got all 16 smurfs. and don't be jealous of the all the hamburgers and fries that we had to eat to collect these little treasures.
NOTICE THE HAND SNEAKING INTO THIS PICTURE?!?!?
i couldn't even get a picture of all of them, sitting peacefully, before the chubbers had to attack. good thing they are durable and will survive the beating the chubbers gives them each time he reaches for one.
last night we took the chubbers to his first baseball game. i don't think he even knew what was going on. except he did pick up on the annoying guy nearby that kept yelling very loudly. weird what a couple of beers can do to your hearing. just takes it right away. good thing the rest of us are now deaf from your yelling!
but i digress.
we took the chubbers to a game and guess what! one of our friends we were with got a foul ball for the chubbers! it was so fun! he loved it. and it's even better that it's a hard ball and could break things with it. we'll just put it up on a shelf as a collector's item for later on in his life. :)

the best news - EVER!
i got the BEST NEWS EVER yesterday.
my sister, who defected to Hawaii, is coming home for a visit for a whole 6 weeks!!!! i almost started crying when she told me the good news. i can't wait to see her and her hubby and their little girl.
and to celebrate - here are a few pics of the chubbers.
the t-shirt says it all. :)
someone wouldn't take a nap at all yesterday - but would in his high chair when it was time to eat dinner.
go figure.

the end of an era.
this is a sad post.
so if you don't want to be sad - avert your eyes.
my parents had a big, beautiful pine tree that graced the front yard, right next to the house. i parked my car many times under this tree, only to be the proud recipient of a sticky windshield from all the pollen or sap or whatever it was that fell onto it from this tree. well, a few years ago this tree got a bug. a little nasty bug that slowly killed it from the inside out. and slowly, but surely, this giant tree died.
we've been talking for months about cutting it down, who should cut it down, how it should be cut down, etc. well, i guess my dad just got a bug of his own and cut it down yesterday. i wish i could have been there for the festivities, but alas, i think it was best i wasn't. i probably would have cried.
last night the hubbers, the chubbers and i took a drive to see what it looked like. as soon as we pulled in the driveway we saw this big mass of branches. it was almost too dark to see, but we hurried and snapped a few pics of it and walked around to see the scene. there was pine needles and sawdust everywhere. and it definitely smelled like sap. this morning when i dropped the chubbers off with grandma i took some more pics - for those of you too far away to come see it - like - if you lived in Hawaii, for instance.
to give you a size comparison, i stood next to it.

to imagine where it stood, just prop it back up - what a lovely tree! it's funny - my parent's house looks small without it now.
the trunk is about 2 feet in diameter or so - a big tree.
grandma is wondering who is going to come and haul all this wood away.

just got word that Zane & Bri's baby boy is most likely going to come sooner than they originally thought - 2 weeks sooner, in fact.

graduation and vacation
what a busy weekend we had!
first we had my graduation exercises.
we had to wake up WAY early to be on time. i think the chubbers was in shock for the first few hours, trying to figure out why it was still dark and why i was wearing all these funny clothes.
"really? where is my bed?"
i'm not sure why we were supposed to ring this - but my friends and i rang this really big bell after the ceremony.

here's the proof - i got the hubbers to wear BYU stuff just for me. it was killing him! and he says he'll never wear this tie again. any takers?
it was a great day, and the ceremony didn't last too long - bonus! all in all, a great end to a great experience. now what to do with my thursday nights.....
we went home and packed up for our next adventure - Flaming Gorge. i had never been there before so i was really looking forward to this trip.
the chubbers was so tired from waking up so early for graduation that he fell asleep playing with his pinwheel
"ahhh...this is the life. now if i could just get someone to bring me a drink"
this is what i look like when i'm on vacation - no make up, no hair do's.
i would be really over-simplifying things if i said the chubbers hated his life jacket. i can't blame him. good thing he won't remember this when he's older.
DISCLAIMER: one of the reasons i married the hubbers is because i love to watch him waterski. he is AMAZING and i love the thrill of seeing what he can do each time he skis.

the hubbers says he's learned how to fall - so something like this doesn't leave him dead in the water.
see that smile? he's in heaven.
we went on a tour of the Dam at Flaming Gorge. it was really interesting and exciting to see how they built this massive thing.

inside the plant. the chubbers was so enthralled by it all
look closely - see if you can tell what's in the water -
if you click to enlarge this pic - you can see - there are dozens of fish. at the bottom of the dam you can buy fish food and feed the fish. they are still about 20 feet below you - but the fish expect the food and just swarm all over. it's like a scene with the eels in "a princess bride". i could almost hear the fish squealing. eeks!

more stuff.
well, another busy, busy weekend.
and the chubbers is the busiest of us all.
he's all over the place now - trying to be as mobile as possible.
he's using all the furniture and tables and walls and stuff to get around.
i guess he got bored playing with me one day and had to find a way to entertain himself.
"what? i'm just checkin' out my car seat"

"mom - what are you doing with that camera? i've got to come inspect"

we took my parents for a little camping trip this last weekend. it was fun - we went up, cooked dinner, ate, went to sleep, woke up, ate, packed up, and came home.
the hubbers is still trying to figure out how everything works on our tent trailer

the chubbers got his own camp chair and he loves it - i think mostly becuase it's camo designed.
