Anyway, this particular day Eric was off and since the girls and I don't really get out much (other then our beautiful back yard)since we are operating with one car as long as possible, whenever Eric is home I always hassle him to go somewhere. So we decided to go to a local Nature Center. It's a totally awesome place, complete with hiking trails, a center with all sorts of activities always going on, exhibits of local animals, and a fun play area. The girls were pretty hyper, probably a little more then usual. We had been there about fifteen minutes when Carmi (you know, my darling 2nd born who has been running into doors/walls/etc since she could walk) went running right into the bottom of the big plastic slide. And she hit it HARD, and completely in the wrong position. She seemed a little stunned, but okay. I was right there, about ten steps from her and she came over to me, and right as she got there the blood just started pouring out of her mouth.(My first assumption was a bitten lip or tongue) I was trying to look and see where it was coming from without a lot of luck. I called to Eric and he came over and I handed her over to him, and right then I looked down and sitting right on my leg was the tooth that had been knocked out! Of course I had no idea what needed to be done. I just figured Eric would take her to the restroom and get the bleeding stopped and we would continue our little outing. Well after sitting there like a doofus for a few minutes Eric called to me from across the room and asked if I was coming. We loaded everybody into the car (by this time I had noticed the big spots of blood all over Eric and a nice big smear on his face) and he politely pointed out to me that even if intervention wasn't needed it wouldn't be a good idea to stick around looking like a serial killer. He said we needed to go to his office (About 25 minutes away) so he could put the tooth back in. So that was where we went. With Carmi crying in the back (she fell asleep about halfway there), Lilli completely grossing out over all the blood, Jared just looking highly entertained. And me, well I made a nice puddle of spit in the bottom of my mouth and held the tooth to keep it happy)
So Carmi had her first trip to the dentist. She did awesome! The kids came away with a supply of princess/dora/tinkerbell/spiderman stickers to last several days so they were happy. Later that night the tooth came out again. Eric quickly stuck it back in and we assumed it would fall out over night since Carmi is a thumb sucker. Well it didn't, all the way anyway, it's currently hanging halfway out. (part of this is probably because she also tore her frenum, that little piece of skin between your upper lip and upper row of teeth and it takes several weeks to heal) She hasn't sucked her thumb since all this happened a week ago. So between a tooth halfway out, and a tooth that she bumped loose several months ago that never fell out and just died (so it's gray now) we are going to have some very interesting pictures for the next few years! (And Carmi will have a great story to tell as well!)
It's a little hard to tell, but she had a super fat lip for several days.
One of the many stickers she got.
Yup.
And just for the fun of it, here is our backyard with a lot of leaves that I have no desire to rake up so I am currently avoiding...
Eric made the girls a swing, they love it!
Two cute little girls (you can tell how much they love being outside!)
Lilli especially loves going out and gathering the persimmons.
Carmi calls them "berries"
We've been collecting and harvesting persimmons for awhile. We found a recipe for a delicious pudding that won a contest at an Indiana Persimmon Festival. YUM! Right now we have a bunch of pulp in the freezer while we look up more yummy things we can do with them.
The swing in action.
I tried to get a picture of Carmi and her funky looking teeth, but her mouth was still pretty sore so I didn't have any luck. I think she is doing better now since we can brush her teeth again without any tears, or "you're hurting my owie" (She started referring to owies this way some time ago and I think it's so cute! She always says "I hurt my owie")
