December 17 - 21

We have one more full week of school before the holiday break, and it will be business as usual . . . with some Christmas activities thrown in for fun! We will finish learning about our last four cultures and how they celebrate Christmas. We'll participate in some singing with the school, including a music extravaganza on Friday at 10:00. We will also have a class party later in the week. We will have our usual math, spelling, reading groups, and other subjects, as well. So this will be a busy and full school week! Happy Holidays to all of you! I hope you enjoy spending time with your family and making sweet memories during this winter break!

December 10 - 14

Our classroom has just received a set of five notebook computers! Beginning this week, the students will be using these during their independent center while we have our language arts groups. They will be working with a program called Imagine Learning. This program helps students with reading, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and fluency. They will even be able to record themselves reading. The program uses ongoing assessment to place the child at his/her most appropriate level. Reports will be available for checking each student's progress. (With these notebooks, the students will also have more opportunities to use the IXL math program at school.) I am excited about this opportunity for our students, and I will report back to you soon on how it is going!

December 3 - 7

December is here, and that means we'll begin our "Christmas Around the World" unit! Each (full) day, we will learn about how a different culture celebrates during the holidays. Please remember that if you have any special items or knowledge you could share with us about a certain country, the students would really enjoy that. Just let me know if you would like to come in on a particular day or if you'd like to share anything.
For Thursday, please encourage your child to fill out and bring back the Food Guide Pyramid Fun homework sheet. The students will be looking at that to see what foods they've eaten for one day. They will use this information for a math center.
It was great to meet with each of you during Parent-Teacher Conferences! Thank you for all you do to support your child's success in school!

Stretching Sounds Activity
