October 28 - November 1

This week, we will be learning about retelling the important parts of a story (beginning, middle, and end).  This skill helps the children to perform better on their reading tests, as well as helping them to understand what they read.  You as parents can help your children by asking them to tell you about what they have read and by encouraging them to include important details. Also this week, we will wrap up our addition strategies math chapter and move on to subtraction strategies to 20.  Halloween is Thursday.  We will have a costume parade around the school at 1:00, with a class party following that.  Please encourage your children to choose costumes which allow them to see and move easily/safely and which are easy enough to put on by themselves in the bathroom after lunch. *Reminder: This is the last week of the month, so please encourage your children to finish at least 400 minutes for their reading calendars this month.  Have a great week!

October 21 - 25

Note:  There will be no school on Monday or Tuesday of this week.
     This is Red Ribbon Week.  We will talk about making good choices and staying drug free. Here is the schedule: Wednesday-wear bright colors or spots day; Thursday-wear red day & bring a canned food item (the class who brings the most will get a donut party); Friday-wear warm-ups or athletic wear.
     With the short week, I handed out the spelling lists early.  We will still have a spelling pretest on Thursday and a spelling test on Friday for those who did not get 100%.
     Thank you to all of you parents who helped your children complete the "Special States for your Family" homework assignment.  We will have begun to have some students tell about their states and will continue to do so throughout the next week or so.

October 14 - 18

     We will be learning about maps this week.  The students will be given a homework assignment to choose 5 states that are special to their families.  This assignment will be due on Friday.  That day, the children will have the opportunity to show us their 5 states and tell us why they are special to their families.
     You may have noticed a note last week showing which math goals your child has passed off.  This week, I will send a similar note listing our language arts goals. Please take special notice of those skills your child has not passed off.  It is my hope that between our working at school and any help you can give at home, all of our students will complete these goals by the end of the trimester on November 8.  Thank you for all of your support!

October 7 - 11

(Sorry for the technical difficulties last week which prevented me from updating most of the information on this page.  I don't think all of the problems have been fixed, but at least I found a way around them this time!  Thanks for your patience!)  This school year is really moving forward.  There is only one more month of this trimester!  We have been working hard on our math and reading goals.  This week, I will send home a note detailing your students' progress towards these goals.  Thank you for helping your child at home with homework and reading.  It is really giving the students a great foundation for their learning!  Have a great week!
