February 25 - March 1

We will be celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday all week, and we will have short days all week long.  So we will be busy as we still work to fit in all of our regular math and literacy activities for the week!  Our new Treasures unit will focus on nature, which means we will begin many of our science units in the next few weeks.  Our new math unit will focus on geometry, with emphasis on 2-D shapes and symmetry.  I look forward to meeting with each of you at parent-teacher conferences and discussing your child's progress!

February 19 - 22

During this short week, we will be reviewing and testing on our recent Treasures and math units.  Thursday will be our test day for both subjects.  The Treasures testing will begin at 8:15 in the computer lab.  This test will also require the students to write an essay on a favorite book.  Don't forget that Thursday is also an early-out day, as are all the school days next week.  Parent-teacher conferences are next week, and I look forward to seeing you then!

February 11 - 15

Looking forward to a busy and exciting week!  Along with learning about animal teams and our regular subjects, we will be making a Valentines bag for cards and learning about our nation in honor of Presidents Day.  Each of the students is in a group which has begun to work on a readers theater.  Many of the readers theaters are about historical figures in our country.  We will continue to practice for fluency, and we hope to perform those for some other classes within the next week. Thursday is Valentine's Day, and we will have a class party after lunch.  If your child would like to bring Valentines, there are currently 15 students (including your child).  Friday is the end of the trimester, so we will be doing some testing this week in preparation for report cards.

February 4 - 8

We are finishing up the last two weeks of this trimester.  We have been learning about how to write short answers using information from a story or reading passage.  It can be challenging for the students to support their answers with details from the passage.  As with everything, this is a learning process we are working through, and the students will continue to grow in their ability to accomplish this.  I have already seen so much progress in this skill, as well as in many of the areas we've worked on so far this year.  It is exciting to watch these children succeed!
