Dancing, Singing, and all that JAZZ!

The first part of October has been jam packed. We'll start with JuJu. She loves her ballet class. It's downtown Kansas City, and I'm not sure if JuJu enjoys dance as much as she enjoys running around in a tutu with her friends. She loves pre-school, dressing up, the theme song from Harry Potter, and the Velveteen Rabbit book. Juliette is still a little nut! LOVE her!

Adrian is great, as always! I have been spinning around him, destroying the house with JuJu, juggling schedules, and just freaking out in general over life in general....and Adrian has been cool as a cucumber. this is probably because he spends so much time with his nose in the scriptures, or any piece of literature he can get his hands on. He can really escape with a book. Adrian recently met Tony Bennett, his wife, daughter, and Harold Jones!! Adrian also beat boxed with me at my last gig, and everyone flipped! Adrian is gearing up for the busy season at the shop, and it should be a good year for Escapist!

As for me...I'm just trying to keep up... between family, church, house, and jazz gigs...I'm busy. I had two wonderful concerts recently...just magical evenings as far as music and opportunity go...but I'll blog that later with videos. Here's a picture of me singing with Paul Langosh on bass..Tony's bass player and our good friend. This location in the photo is the historical Mutual Musicians Foundation...where Count Basie and Charlie Parker played, and where Adrian and I met! Juliette came with me one day to rehearsal and played the drums there. Let's see....Juliette keeps me on my toes and often out cold...and...I did a mattress commercial recently, but not much acting other than that. Every week is crazy....I always welcome Sundays!!

Tony's wife, Tony, Anna, Adrian, me, and Paul Langosh...if only JuJu could have been there! We went backstage after the show. Tony said he remembered me from his party....I'm don't think he really did, but I know his wife did...she was the one who pulled my dress out of my pantyhose on the streets of Manhattan while I spoke with Tony....I almost reminded her of this but decided to keep my mouth closed...thank goodness. Jeeez. Tony and the band put on a good show, and his daughter performed too. We had a great weekend with "Uncle Paul." JuJu calls him Paul Paul.

October so far

Well, the bon fire this weekend was so much fun. It was larger than we had anticipated...the fire and the amount of folks, but no complaints! Adrian worked so hard on the landscaping and yard work, and now you can look and see all the way through the little field that leads to the wood. When it was dark, we lit the luminaries around every tree, and I loved watching all of the little girls run around in the candle light, like little fairies. The bon fire was beautiful! We did have a scare with two of the little ones. Naomi and Juliette were on the rocking horse outside, and no one knows exactly what happened, but poor little Naomi came in with quite a shiner. Soon after, little Davis..this is scary, walked up to the grill and placed both hands on it...while it was lit. I remember all of us running in slow motion towards him, and no one was more than ten feet away. By after his Daddy got to him, everything sped up, and we had those little hands under ice water and covered in burn cream before you could blink. It's a miracle that his hands were okay, truly.
Thirty minutes later, I found myself in the kitchen, mascara in one hand and chili pot on the other, and my foot opening the refrigerator door, while screaming, "we don't have ice and I can't find the lighter, and I really need a diet coke....." somewhere between putting on my makeup, dusting, and cooking for the party, I became sidetracked with friends and families pouring in to our home. I really did not expect many folks would come...but I'm glad they did. It was so much fun. Leslie made the serving table look so nice, and Randi was right behind me the whole time. Ruth, Amy, Mike...everyone was so helpful! I love how people can come together around food! The one person who was missing though.....Anna...we missed Anna.
Adrian played Wes Montgomery records on the turn tables, and later he beat boxed for everyone. I dropped Leslie's janky snickers cake before presenting it to her. We found Juliette slamming at least one Dr. Pepper. It was like Christmas for her...with all of the soda and chips...which she calls "angry food," for reasons we still don't know.
So the fire was fun, and since then we have enjoyed watching General Conference. This year we set up the projector downstairs, and with all of the leftover junk food from the party, it's like being at the movies. I love General Conference, lengthy as it can be, I love it.
Next weekend is La Scala, the opera supper, and the next weekend Paul Langosh will be in town with Tony Bennett...and Paul is going to play a few songs with me that weekend at Foundations! My parents are coming up sometime soon I think. Juliette has finally started part time pre school!
Another busy month.
