The Borders' Boys

We had a fabulous weekend visit with Nathan's brother and his cute wife, Katy, a few weekends ago. It was so fun to just hang out for a weekend without all the normal holiday bustle that makes up most of our other times together. We had a relaxing weekend that included a little paddleboating at one of our favorite parks. The boys went in one boat and the girls took another. The girls killed the boys getting onto the lake thanks to my accidental power peddling. I LOVE this picture!

Camping Fun

Our little family loves to camp, especially Owen. He has taken Trenton's spot as our little pyro. We were blessed to be invited to camp on a friend's 80-acre property in Indiana over Memorial Day weekend. It was quite the impressive set-up with fire pits, a fishing pond, cabin, outhouse, trails, a creek, rock piles for the kids, a tire swing, 4-wheeling, and the most beautiful view. One of the kids' highlights was finding a huge deer bone in the creek. They spent the whole night speculating about what animal it came from.

One of Trenton's favorite camping pasttimes is carving sticks into spears. He always comes home with a new collection. That's our tent and the cabin in the background. The pond is to the right.

It was so hot and humid that we all needed to just sit and have a snack once in a while...even Owen.

Ashleigh's favorite part of this camping trip was the tire swing...until she swung crooked and crashed into a tree.

Isn't she cute in her sweaty ponytail? She hates to have anything in her hair, but it was so hot that she finally gave in.

Some quality aunt and niece bonding time. Aunt Julie brought the kids' favorite game for them to play...although I can't think of the name of it right now...it was Julie's favorite game as a kid and has pigs in it.

Nothing like juicy watermelon for a midnight snack while camping in the heat! Thanks, Julie!

Silly Owen

Our family loves corn on the cob. Owen can eat a whole ear in no time flat, but this particular evening, he decided that playing with it seemed like more fun. It was so comical that we didn't want to stop him. Here he is filling his ear with every corn holder we have.

Here he is very proud of his accomplishment. Can't you tell by his little grin?

The funniest part of all was when he picked it up to eat it afterwards. Hilarious!

Trenton's Recent Activities

Trenton's Cub Scout pack recently held a "Raingutter Regata" in the church parking lot. It was very informal as the boys constructed their boats out of styrofoam as they arrived for the regata and then raced moments later. The boats began with sails, but the boys quickly learned that they went much faster down the water-filled gutter without the sail. Trenton's boat won everytime! Owen enjoyed catching the water as it dripped out the end of one of the gutters. At least he was occupied so I could cheer Trenton on.

The third graders at Trenton's school perform a very touching Memorial Day tribute for local veterans every year. How lucky we were that we moved here while Trenton was a third grader or we would have missed it. All of the kids painted their own tshirt to wear in the performance. This tradition at Trenton's school is a very big deal and has brought the school a lot of recognition.

In addition to the 3rd grade Memorial Day performance, Trenton's school puts out hundreds of flags around the perimeter of the school. It is breath-taking to see so many flags in one place! They are kind of hard to see in this picture, but this is a shot from the side parking lot.

Trenton also participated in his school's art fair. He painted the picture he is seated next to along with several others. He really enjoyed seeing his art work framed and on display for the whole school to see.

This is the last of several third grade projects Trenton completed this year. It is a hairy mammoth that lived during the Ice Age. Trenton did a ton of research about this animal and wrote an impressive research report about what he learned. He is becoming quite the entertaining writer.
