School Carnival

The kids had so much fun at the annual carnival held at their school last week. The new jousting game was very popular, but it gave Trenton a headache afterwards. Trenton's on the left.

Trenton won two out of three rounds against his friend, John. His prize was a gold necklace which he gave away.

This carnival activity was called Sandy Candy. The kids got to fill plastic tubes with flavored sugar. Pixie Sticks are one of Owen's favorite candies, so this was very exciting for him. Funny story: I used Pixie Sticks to potty train Owen. It took me several different candies to figure out that this was the bribe that would work the best. Now, whenever Owen asks for a Pixie Stick (I have been keeping a stock of them on hand in case I need to bribe him), he tells me "I'm potty trained, so I can have one."

The Lucky Lollipop game. If you pulled out a lollipop with a colored stick, then you got a Silly Bandz. We tried 4 times, but never found a colored stick. Owen was okay with that since he got to keep the suckers he picked.

Candy Letter

I had to post this so that I wouldn't forget it. This is totally something I would do for someone else, so I will probably copy the idea someday :)

A Visit from the Tooth Fairy!

Ashleigh finally lost her first tooth on Thursday. She has been waiting for this day for the past two years. She was so happy to get to put her tooth in the tooth fairy pillow I just made. She said that she knew the tooth fairy was her mom when she went bed, but in the morning she was so surprised to find money in the pillow. She said she didn't hear the tooth fairy come which I explained was because the tooth fairy flies with its wings so she doesn't make any noise :)

4 months!

Dallin turned 4 months old this week! He had to receive several immunizations at his 4-month check-up which absolutely broke Owen's heart. Owen cried harder than Dallin did when the shots were given. I had the hardest time getting them both to calm down because Dallin would cry when he heard Owen crying which just made Owen cry more. Anyway, Owen loves his baby! We started Dallin on cereal and he loves it. He looks so tiny in his high chair. I just love his sweet, innocent face.

Zoo Trip

Owen is our animal lover, so he has a lot of fun when we visit our zoo. We haven't went all summer because of the heat, so we went the first chance we got now that the weather is cooling down.

Love the train ride, but it's never long enough!

We had some peacocks join us for lunch. Owen thought they were very funny. This one snuck up on him when he wasn't watching.

Besides peacocks, a very tame squirrel joined us for lunch. When Owen saw him he asked me, "Is that a skunk?" What?? Then, later after the squirrel reappeared he said to me, "There's that rat again!" Sounds like we need to study our animals again.

Dallin loved being outdoors at the zoo.

Owen spent an hour trying to trick the goats into thinking he had food for them. He would hold out his hand and they would run up and sniff it. Owen just smiled and went on looking for another victim.

Dallin, 15 weeks

Dallin went through a fussy period this week and woke up in the middle of the night a few times, but he started rolling over from back to front. He is really funny about this because it has become an automatic response for him whenever he is put down on his back. He almost instantly rolls to his tummy, but then gets upset because he doesn't like being there. When I flip him back over he rolls right back. He had another growth spurt and is now wearing 6/9 month clothing. He is our biggest boy yet!

Happy boy who loves his momma! He has started getting upset when I'm gone. He has been giving Dad a hard time when I run to the store at night.

Camping

We discovered our new favorite campground this month and the best news is that it is very close to home! This was Dallin's first overnight camping, so a new tent was needed to accomodate our growing family.

The kids enjoy sitting around the fire telling ghost stories or exploring trails around our campsite when we go camping. While we were putting up our tent this camping trip, Ashleigh came running back into our campsite and said she just saw a raccoon in the woods. When we asked her to tell us more about this, she said, "Well, it was either a raccoon or a deer." That's the problem with living in a city - our children's only exposure to animals is at the zoo and there aren't raccoons or deer there!

Nothing beats chocolate for breakfast! No wonder they love camping so much!

Dallin's fitted sleeping bag worked like a charm. It got colder than we expected in the early morning, but Dallin slept through it in his cozy bag. He's a natural camper! He loves the outdoors and doesn't mind the bugs.
