scott pilgrim versus the night
i saw scott pilgrim versus the world with the programming posse and enjoyed it a whole lot. my favorite thing about it was that it used fast modern editing yet still managed to tell a story, especially in the fights.
however
the coolest thing about seeing the movie had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual movie.
the trailer for the upcoming M. Night Shamalamadingdong twist come on and at the minute:18 mark...
...when the lights go out in the elevator, the lights also went out in the theater. and the film stopped. and the sound stopped. and then the sirens started and the emergency lights came on. but it wasn't until the prerecorded voice told us this wasn't a drill that our group (and everyone) realized this wasn't part of the trailer and we should, in fact, actually exit the theater.
so, if anyone's interested, now i know where the emergency exit is in pacific place. plus, i have a free pass to go back sometime this fall.
soooo, thank you, high school or perhaps college pranksters!

he walks like me, he talks like me, he even has a twin like me
there's another woman with my same first and last name living in my neighborhood. she goes to my walgreens, so i have to give them my address again every time i refill a prescription. she goes to my spa, so i have to identify myself with middle initial and phone number whenever i'm lucky enough to get to make an appointment there.
these are extraordinarily minor things, too small to even really be deemed inconvenient, and yet . . . i can't help wishing she would move.

that's why the kitty's a tramp
as long as people keep writing songs to their "lady", "baby", or "shorty", i will never run out of fun and easy ways to serenade mr. kitty.

one, two, three, that's my eyesight
work up earlier than i wished to this morning due to an Actor's Nightmare. shudder.
no zombies, no serial killers, no relentless shadow monsters i encounter in dreamland are ever worse than this.
i was in a modern musical, stuck in the auditorium balcony as the overture finished. i pushed my way through the crowd to reach the stage 20 seconds too late to not be obvious. suddenly, the opening song reaches a hitch in the getalong. clearly, i should be saying something.
"Raej?" hollers the pit orchestra conductor (in real life, my good friend Uncle Rory Pants, who would never ever do such a thing to me).
i, of course, have no idea of what i'm meant to say. so i brilliantly decide to gibberish my way through the line.
"What?" asks the girl onstage with me.
"Mumblrphfflip!" I say louder. and with verve and confidence.
somehow the number ends and i'm safely backstage, wildly searching for a script. because somehow i know i have two (2!) solos coming up in the second act, even though i have no idea what they are.
i stumble on a familiar face. "garret! can i borrow your script?"
"of course," says garret. "and i have some notes for you too."
so as i frantically thumb my way through his mysteriously out of order script, he proceeds to lecture me about being more of a team player, so that people are willing to help me. meanwhile the clock is ticking down to my next entrance.
fortunately, i woke up before then. and, even though tired and hung over, i got up and haven't been back to sleep since.
i should go now and sleep, but i'm a little nervous.
i'd study my lines before bed. if i had any.
