Just the 3 of Us!

Well the event that I was dreading since the day the girls were born happened on Monday. Daddy had to go back to work! I was so nervous to be alone with the girls. What if they both needed something? How could I help them both? How would I handle feeding and burping both of them? Normally Daddy is there to burp and hand me the next one. Wes on the other hand has never been nervous to be alone with them. He absolutely amazes me with how willing he is to take them both on. When I had to go to a conference from 7 - 2 on August 10th he stayed home with them. My mom had offered several times to come and help him but he insisted that he was fine and not even a little worried about feeding, burping, changing and soothing both girls. He did a great job!

So as August 24th approached I started feeling more and more apprehensive about how I would handle all day, every day with my little ladies. Wes and I were so on the go and we took the girls with us everywhere so we didn't really have them on a napping schedule - whenever they feel asleep was fine. We didn't put them in their beds. The slept in their car seat, swing, bouncy seat, the floor, our arms, etc. I was kicking myself for not having that figured out before he left. We had the nighttime routine down pat but as for napping, not so much. So Monday came and I could not even believe how easy it was! When I tried to lay them down in their cribs for a nap.....they feel right to sleep! It was ridiculous. I was bracing myself for lots of crying and rocking. I literally laid them down and didn't hear another word (well not words, we aren't talking quite yet) from them. They even slept for 2 hours!!!!!! Today is our fourth day and it has been so easy and enjoyable. I was wondering what I got myself into wanting to stay home with them until January, but I am thanking God now that I get this time with them. There have only been a few moments when they are both crying and I do my best to get to them as quickly as possible. They are learning patience a little sooner than if they would not have been twins. All in all, I'm not worried anymore and I am incredibly in love with my girls!

Will and Soph

One of my favorite roles in life is being an aunt to my absolutely adorable niece and nephew. William Dean and Sophia Grace are my sister's children and they are two of my favorite people in the world. I'm not just biased these children are gorgeous as you'll see from the pictures below. Not only are they beautiful but they are so fun to be around.

Will is 2 and he is my Godchild (a job that I hold very dear to my heart). He is the most intelligent little boy. He knows all of his colors, shapes, animals and their sounds, different kinds of trucks and tractors, counting to 30 and even a little Spanish! His memory would blow your mind. Example - Wes, or Uncle Dub as Will calls him, fractured his toe playing basketball and Will would ask about "Uncle Dub's" toe that he hurt playing "bassaball" for like 3 weeks. Did I mention that he knew the difference between an octagon and a pentagon and could name all of his shapes at like 1 1/2? He makes me smile as soon as I see him. He is so sweet and will always gives hugs and kisses. His Uncle Dub is one of his favorite people. Uncle Dub and Little Dub are two peas in a pod and Wes cherishes their relationship. Will was a huge part in helping us get through our fertility troubles. He was our "baby fix" and we spent tons of time with him. We just loved being with him and fulfilling our God parental duties!
Sweet Sophie Girl is another person who can make me smile instantly. Her huge smile melts my heart! She is almost 4 months old and 6 weeks older than my girls. I am so excited that they will get to grow up together. This was always my dream to have my kids close in age to their cousins, but I never dreamed it would work out so perfectly. Sophie is such a happy and strong baby. She loves her mommy and can't stop smiling when she's around. She rolls over both ways and loves to talk and stand when she's holding her mommy's hands. She has the same huge eyes her brother has and they are so pretty. I cannot wait to watch her grow and become best friends with my little ladies. I have 3 girl cousins that are the same age as me and it was so wonderful to have instant friends.

I feel so blessed to have these little angels in my life. My sister is an amazing mom and it shows in her kids. They are so lucky to have her and I hope they always appreciate her. She is my best friend and the person I want to talk to for everything. She always knows how to make me feel better. Tonight I called her just because I was feeling emotional. She just always says the right thing and I end up feeling so much better. God surely blessed me with an amazing family!

My UNIQUE girls!

My girls were born on the same day but that is about where their similarities end. They are so different in appearance and temperament. I am very conscience of the fact that people will always be comparing them because they are twins. This is unfair to the girls because every child develops in their own way, no matter if they are multiples or not.

I have felt a little like a Mama Bear lately and feeling the need to be protective of their feelings. I realize that they do not understand any of this yet, but some day they will and I do not want them to have to deal with this. In their short two months of life I have heard several comments that would hurt their feelings if they understood and honestly it hurts my feelings to hear them. No one should have a "favorite" twin or make comments about the size of my girls. Yes, Mya is bigger than Stella but she is by no means a "fatty". I realize that these things were not meant to be hurtful at all but please think about what you are saying before you say it out loud.

We love our girls more than anything and do not want them to ever feel like they are in competition with each other. Of course as their parents, we think they are both perfect. They will do things at their own pace and it will be different and that is just fine with us!
